Our other clue is that the Norton Building (601-07 S. Broadway) appears at the left of the first photo, so I think we'd have to be looking due east on 6th St. (from the north side of the street) to get the Eastern Columbia building to be on our right. We have to be on the north side of 6th St. to get the viewing angle of the Norton Building to expose the west wall with the signage, presumably facing Lindley Pl. and the rear of the Los Angeles Theater.
Except that...
- The west wall of the Norton Building doesn't look to me as though it has the correct height or window placement to accommodate the signage we see; and
- I think our viewpoint would have to be the top of the Pacific Mutual Building, because Pershing Square takes up the block between Hill and Olive Sts.; and
- A quick check on Google Earth suggests that the only rooftop parking in the neighborhood is at 625 S. Hill St., but the garage is much too new and the viewing angle is toward St. Vincent Ct. instead of 6th St.; and
- Finally, the extant buildings on the south side of 6th St. (between us and the Norton Building signs) don't seem to resemble the ones in the photograph.
Not sure what I'm missing, but it must be a lot!
