Are they going to cover the beams of the communication rings with something or will remain pure steel?

Weird cause I do deny it. Oh well. Everyone has an opinion.

What makes this architecturally different from the spire on say, the BofA building?

The spire on BofA does not hold communication equipment and thus was designed with nothing in mind but how it looks. This is designed to hold communication equipment and looks like it.

People seem to get engineering confused with architectural design. Height is height, that is the engineering element. An antenna or mast can be very robust, thick, prominent, what have you. That does not make it an architectural element. What you see now is the functional skeleton of what would have been a true spire if it had remained covered by an architectural element. Instead, they merely deleted the architectural elements (except for the very tip which now looks stuck on since it does not flow into anything like it was supposed to.

Technically you can look at this two ways. The Radome, while beautiful, really isn't a true architectural element. It is used everyday on functional radar domes. That being said one could argue that the radome shouldn't count either. Now to your argument that the current spire doesn't flow from top to bottom. Who says it has to. The grand thing about architecture is that it can be unique. This spire is very unique and in my humble opinion, I think it works for the building. And I don't believe the beacon looks stuck. It's made of metal. The rest of the spire is made of metal. Now if the beacon was made out of radome or something else then I could see your point, but it's not. The more I look at this spire the more I realize it was meant to be.

To look at it that way makes it even worse.

I don't know why you guys aren't getting this, but I'll keep repeating it. The radome itself wasn't the architectural element, it's what the architectural element was composed of.
There was a very specific design for the spire, in fact there were a few. What you see exposed now was never meant to be, nor is it an architectural element of design.

I think the spire looks great, especially when illuminated at night. But what the hell do I know? I'm just your normal everyday schmuck who's lived in New York his whole life, 61 years.....

From yesterday..
Pics can't describe how massive this thing is in person

Base cladding looks just about done on the rear, and a quarter of the way there on the side with the elevator

I just downloaded the next version of Google Earth (recent update, 3D cities load faster)

But sadly the WTC 3D buildings aren't updated. 1WTC looks like in 2012, and so does 4WTC. How can I change that ?
Because in my former Google Earth version, 1WTC and 4WTC were updated (4WTC covered by glass, and 1WTC with an antenna).
I can't even click on the building, on the new Google Earth

Someone knows how to fix it?

Thanks
