For all we know Tower 3 looks like it does and different from Tower 1 and 2 (which are ostensibly the signature towers of this project), because they went with slightly lower-end materials and design specifications for precisely the reason you think they shouldn't have - i.e. to save money.
And that going the route you're suggesting - having all three towers identical with the same material and design treatments - would actually have INCREASED their cost rather than reduced it.

There are lots of decisions that go into how these multi-tower projects end up with towers that look completely different and have different materials and looks - chief among them being the overall concept design scheme and aesthetic. But the over-riding cost factor is almost always among the biggest, if not THE biggest influencing one (outside of design aesthetic) even in a $1 Billion project of this scale.

And it's more likely in this case that Tower 3 (and presumably Tower 4 when it shall go into construction) look like they do and different from 1 and 2 because this is really where Shape got their cost-cutting opportunities and saved on cost for the project.

Imagine how Station Square would look like if all 5 towers looked like Tower 5 (the signature tower designed by KPF) with similar material specifications, but at different heights (or even all identical heights).
Just think how much that would drive up the average unit cost in all the 5 towers across the entire project.
I know I don't know that and there for why I used the word [IF] but really a lot of things really on here is just assumptions and a lot of the things we say comment on and or wish to have are things non of us have any control over. It doesnt stop us from dreaming and or hoping or for that matter expressing our thoughts and opinions. I have myself worked on some big renovations and construction projects myself and usually have found that the larger the order of say engineered hardwood flooring the better the rate per square foot a builder or home owner can get for that hardwood. I know this doesnt translate to all building materials but still I can speculate knowing for a fact I will never know why certain decisions are made in the real world unless I was a fly on the wall of Shapes boardroom.

Breaking News

Tesla has announced its shifting to entirely online retail. Can't figure out how to post links but its not that hard to find.

This makes me sad personally, I was really looking forward to seeing that Tesla sign up there.

Not entirely, they will keep some locations with high traffic

Something Happening on top of Brentwood Tower 1 Tonight

Sorry, this is the best I can do with my shaky hands and smartphone after sunset.

NOTE - The blue-white light changed to red 30 minutes or so after this picture was taken

That doesn't necessarily mean that they're not going to have physical stores and locations anymore.

Just that they're not going to sell from them anymore, but they do more than just sell cars at Tesla stores.

Tesla owners have to take their cars somewhere for maintenance for example, and they can't just go to the local mechanic.

Unless that announcement was in relation to that particular planned location in terms of changing their plans to open a store there. But I doubt it impacts any of the other existing Tesla locations around the city (unless they're strictly retail stores with no service or maintenance component).

I read the story and my take was that they are going to sell the model 3 online only to keep the price at $35,000.

heres a story

The company will wind down many of its stores over the next few months, Musk said. Some of the roughly 130 outlets will remain in high-traffic locations as galleries, showcases and information centers, and others will become service and repair centers.

A lot of maintenance on Tesla vehicles can and are done through there mobile teams that they send to customers so there is no need for customers to go to them but rather they will go to the customer. In the rare case an issue is one that needs a shop then they will need a customer to go to one of these. Overall I think this decision will save the company money in many ways including not having to continue to fight the dealership lobby groups who keep fighting and often say that Tesla can't sell their vehicles the way they do because of "xyz" law etc...

Would Brentwood qualify as a "high traffic" center?

But then again, is there another Tesla location in North Burnaby (or Burnaby in general)? I imagine this would be their primary service and customer maintenance center for the Burnaby region as Downtown Vancouver already has one and there's one on 4th Street just south of downtown.

Tesla has a small store on Robson I can see leaving. The store on West 4th is their main service center.

I'm not sure what they do at Park Royal, it's a bigger store, I don't think they do repairs there.

And then there's a service/delivery center on Powell.

I suppose they will evaluate each location on a case by case basis. I can't see them opening too many net new locations with this announcement. It makes sense they'll have another service center at some point.

I have yet to see a mobile service tech in Vancouver, they are more for remote customers I would guess.

I've seen the Tesla Mobile Service team around Vancouver like at Oakridge Mall and other parts of Vancouver.

Seeing Burnaby from 614 feet is scary and breathtaking

Chris Campbell / Burnaby Now
MARCH 9, 2019

RYAN BRODA PHOTO

I once wrote an entire chapter in a long-forgotten book about Maple Ridge on what it was like to see the town while circling it in an airplane.

The point of the piece was that you could live in a place for a long time, but seeing it from a different perspective will reveal interesting things to you.

That thought came back to me on Friday when I was taken up to the top of Burnaby’s tallest building at the Amazing Brentwood development that’s transforming Brentwood Town Centre.

Project developer Shape and residential builder Axiom were celebrating what they called the “topping off” of the tower, which reaches 614 feet up into the sky.

I’m sure plenty of you have been to the top floor of a skyscraper, but this was a decidedly different experience.

The building isn’t finished, just the frame of it has reached the top floor. So instead of taking a nice, comfy elevator inside the building, a group of us crowded into large metal enclosure that serves as an elevator for the construction crews.

Burnaby’s tallest building ‘topped off’ as Brentwood megaproject grows

Chris Campbell / Burnaby Now
MARCH 8, 2019

Steven Cirotto stood at the microphone Friday and talked about growing up in the Heights.

The operations manager for the construction company Axiom said he still remembers how special Christmas was as a child at Brentwood Town Centre.

Today, he still lives in North Burnaby and is able to look out his home’s window as see what he’s helping build as part of the Amazing Brentwood megaproject that is transforming the area.

“This is really special,” he told a crowd of staff from Axiom – which is building the residential towers - and Shape - the developers behind the entire project – who were attending a special “topping off” ceremony to mark the final concrete pour.

At a dizzying 614 feet, Tower Two is the tallest building in Burnaby (Tower One is the same height and is nearing completion). They are part of 11 residential buildings that will eventually be built on the site.
