There is a crane and something being built on the corner of 9400 S 300 W, you can see it from the freeway, just to the west. It doesn't seem to be anything too big, but there is a crane. Does anybody know what this is?

Is it in that area that has warehouses? I know there's a few new mini warehouse/retail going up near 9800 S. just west of the freeway.

I drove throught the Fairbourne Station area today to take a look at the Promonade. The linear park is very nice and inviting, I think it will be a great open space center piece for "downtown" WVC. The Embassy Suites looks to be doing interior work like HVAC, and it's weird to see construction sidewalk scaffolding outside of downtown, but the north side of the hotel has them on 3500 S. I like that it is right up to the sidewalk.

The residences at Fairbourne Station are close to breaking ground, if not already. It looks as if they are doing some utility work on site and the sign saying coming soon is up.

I can really see how "downtown" WVC will eventually encompasing the entire area between 2700 W and 3200 W, and 3500 S and Constitution Blvd, as is shown in the vision on the website. Currently the area consisting of City Hall, the park, library, Embassy Suites and the residences only goes to about 2900 W. There are a lot of old houses, duplexes and apartment communities that I honestly think will meet the wrecking ball in the next 5 years. I think it will occur for two reasons, one because eventually it is planned to go all the way to 3200 W, but more importantly because if they are looking to attract market rate, semi-luxury residents to the residential units there, they don't want to see a bunch of dilapidated old ghetto duplexes right next door, they would rather see a vacant lot that shown more of the same type of development in the future.

Residences at Fairbourne Station will break ground sometime in September according to their Facebook page. This first phase of the residence units will be 4-stories on the back road ( whatever that street is called ) facing the new Promonade. A later phase ( maybe sometime in 2013 ) there will be another set of residence building right on 3500 S. just west of the new hotel that will be 5-stories.
Also there is a office building in the planning stages that could reach as high as 8-stories. That building will go right next to the Trax station behind city hall.

It is between the Comcast building and Colonial Flag and right on the frontage road.

Drove pass it today. No clue what it is. There wasn't any signs or renderings around. Looks like it won't be any taller then two levels and my best guess would be it will be somekind of retail.

This seemed like some excellent news. I hope this trend continues to grow for the Wasatch Front.

Sandy real estate firm adds 90 more agents

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/money/5...-real.html.csp

The Salt Lake Tribune - First Published 9 minutes ago

Coldwell Banker Residential Mortgage has hired more than 90 real estate agents this year, a sign that the housing market along the Wasatch Front is healing.

The hiring surge puts the Sandy-based company’s 11 offices in a better position to meet increasing demand for brokerage services from home buyers and sellers, Coldwell Banker said Thursday. Unit sales brokered by the agency were up 12 percent through July compared to the same time last year.

In all, the offices have added 96 agents...

...Coldwell Banker offices that saw the biggest increases were the Midvale and Orem locations. Each added 14 agents. The Layton office brought in 13 agents, and the Sandy office has 11 new agents.

"We’ve added a tremendous amount of talent to our Salt Lake City-area offices as our business continues to grow," Jensen said.

Statewide, home sales through June totaled 17,348 units, up 10.3 percent from the same period of 2011, according to the Utah Association of Realtors.

Sales in Salt Lake, Weber and Davis counties were up 18.8 percent, 18.3 percent and 17.4 percent, respectively, according to association figures.

It was heartening to see this headline redevelopment news in the paper this morning. I am overjoyed to see this wonderful place back on firmer ground.

I have often dreamed how incredible it would be if Sandy caught the vision of this surrounding area, and invested in developing over time a French Quarter. It could also serve as an alternative ski village base to the Cottonwoods. It's such an incredible corner of the valley, with quite a bit of open space intermingled amongst the foothills.

La Caille: Iconic Sandy restaurant rising from the ashes - New menu, restored grounds and vineyard are all part of the renovation of a restaurant that was Utah’s crown jewel.

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune)
Since new owners took over one year ago, La Caille restaurant in Sandy has undergone some inspiring new changes: a new chef, a $250,000 kitchen remodel, a menu change, a new community plus a replanted vineyard.

By Kathy Stephenson, The Salt Lake Tribune

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/lifesty...rench.html.csp

Sandy » Few businesses could survive a bitter lawsuit, bankruptcy and the tragic deaths of its owners. Yet Sandy’s iconic La Caille restaurant has lived through those scorching times and now seems to be rising from the ashes.

Its rebirth can be found in the restored ponds, vineyards and gardens that surround the French-styled chateau. It can be tasted in the food prepared by a new chef in a recently remodeled kitchen. And it emanates from the employees, many of whom persevered during the restaurant’s darkest days...

The lower portion of Eaglewood Village (the gravel pit in North Salt Lake) seems to be picking up speed and there are finally actual structures being built.

Sooooooo, here are some crappy photos I took:

and the link to the Eaglewood Village website:

and a view of the Salt Lake Valley from the hill above:

On a side note related to fairbourne station, Granger High School is currently being reconstructed on the corner of 3500 S and 3600 W. The school has done an excellent job of posting a photo montage. You can see it and construction updates here: http://www.graniteschools.org/hs/gra...nbuilding.html.

I've been meaning to take some photo's of the Eaglewood Village project, but i've been too lazy. Thanks, Airhero! This project has been stalled for so long, it's nice to see some actual activity going on. The buildings currently under construction are the multi-family, hopefully this will lead to the retail, restaurant, and office space being built soon too

I had almost forgotten about Eaglewood, it's been so long. I remember how amazed we were at the size of that development when it was announced a few years back. Good to see it back on track.

I just went to the Eaglewood website and looked at the interactive map and the virtual tour. I really like the style. Plus, there is such a large residential component to the plan that i think it has a good chance of working.

I agree, it is nice to see Eaglewood Village starting to take shape finally. From my estimates the building being built is the light orange building on the site plan, right in the middle. Is that what others are thinking?

This give the Bountiful Trax extention another reason to be built. I wouldn't be against having a streetcar run along Beck St either. Going up either 400 W or 300 W and terminating (for the time being) at Eaglewood. 300 W has more growth potential, but 400 W is much more pedestrian scale.

If Trax were to extend into Bountiful, Beck St could become another great entrance into the city, similar to what is going to happen on N. Temple, hopefully sooner than later.

Agreed, Future Mayor. I remember that this development was a big step in the direction of improving the area between Bountiful/No. Salt Lake and the Downtown CBD.

Yes, I was just looking at the map and thought the light orange part looked most like what's currently under construction.

The website for Eaglewood Village and the site plans on it are all outdated and haven't been updated for years.
The current building going up is an apartment complex.
