The orange is the lights illuminating tarps. I was thinking it was a fancy lighting feature as well.

You know what shocked me today? I was passing by Commercial-Broadway Station to check out the progress, only to notice that the pigeons and their poop have already taken over the whole place. (Including the new platform!)

Like seriously, they just cannot get it right the first time....

By the time the new platform opens the pigeons will evolve into super intelligent eagles...And then poop will be the least of our problems...

The areas are still low traffic as they are still closed to the public. There is nothing to actively spook them off.

Better get out the BB gun.

Some of the plywood has started coming down from the new platform at Broadway. Took some photos on my way home this evening.

Interesting, thanks for the images. I like how the diagonal bracing at the tops of the pillars breaks up the plain rectangular shape of the platform's wall and ceiling.

anyone know if they will better integrate the part where 1985 meets 2018? where the 1985 lighting wraps back around towards the platform.

also, why the red column? seems a bit random.

What you see is what you get, unfortunately. The minimalist ceiling design prevents the same curved edging or any elegant interfacing with the existing station.

It's going to make the old platform feel really weird from the new platform because you will feel like you are standing outside the station. Think like what New Westminster looked like after the first reno where the ticket hall was a medium ceiling alcove with recessed lights and curved corner panels while the area around it now opened into a large space.
I looked into my photo archive and it seems I did not get a photograph of this before the old entrance was closed for the second reno and this was all ripped out.

I really don't think this is what they're doing. They're working on the roof, for one. I don't think there's any paint up there. Also, they've installed fencing along the dunsmuir viaduct.

I was going to ask why one is red too, is it just unpainted or a design feature?

There are two columns that are red (one at each end of the platform), and I'm really hoping that they get repainted but I'm worried it's some sort of design feature

I like how it tries to call back to the tree trunk style of the Commercial Millennium Line platform, but Commercial has a lot more curves and features (or featured) grey colours and wood. The stark white (and red?) and angular branches combined with the lattice pattern don't quite evoke the same sense (although nice in their own way)

Red and white? If they're going for some kind of O Canada theme, we're going to have a problem here.
