Well, at least I don't like our next tallest' design even more. I like the south and east sides of this one just ne.
I'll just divert my eyes from the other angles if necessary.

I'm noticing that the sides everyone likes are the sides unaffected by the cvc. I'm not completely anti-cvc but I think this project shows that imposing random angles on design is not always going to turn out for the best. It's like telling a painter that they can't use certain colors or have to use a certain canvas. Some artists will effectively adapt to limitations, others will not.

For me I was surprised to dislike the crown from a distance. When I landed at AUS, it just looked kinda sad and hospital off-white from afar. Closer up you can see the satin silver, which I enjoy.

oh well, this is tall filler after all.

I still contend that this building will look very good once it's occupied and lit up.

I will agree. At night the crown will look amazing I think and no one will see what we see during the daylight. Maybe some finishing touches will pull this one out of the bag. I await.

This building is a massive eyesore from every direction. I keep trying to find something I like about it, but I can never get there. I think it is a cautionary tale of sorts. Just because a building is going to be tall doesn't mean it needs to get built. Austin residents will have to look at this building forever. We deserve better.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've got no issues with this tower.

I don't mind the top so much from some of those angles, it's the first 30 floors that make it feel like one building sitting on the shoulders of the other. It's the angled lower floors on the west side that don't do it for it me.

At least with ATX Tower right next door in all its incohesive, stacked glory, this one should look semi-coherent by comparison.

Me neither. I just have preferred angles. I originally had a bad reaction to the design until I had a pm with the architect and he gave me a persuasive explanation for it. If I recall, I was complaining about how our shot at a signature tower that could have been cohesive from top to bottom ended up being 3 distinct stacked sections, and chunky, not sleek. While I can safely say I'm not madly in love with this design, I am overly in like with it. It's amazing it exists here in Austin TX. It's huge and imposing and impressive from any angle from every corner of the city. Interestingly, it seems like the opinions about it are split down the middle.

Oh, I'm way more of of a fan of Sixth & Guadalupe than I am of the ATX Tower. It's just that some of the elevations of it are clumsy. Some of the other elevations are really nice, though. Luckily, I live on the side of town where I like the views of it.

Yeah, which strikes me as very odd. As you say, it's not the greatest design but it is still striking and prominent. I like this far better than the Independent. Not that I dislike that one, it's just that it doesn't really demand your attention like this one does. And especially at dusk, when the sunlight hits at an angle, the tower really shines from all vantage points and it is honestly the best looking tower during this time. Well, imo at least.

I'm personally split down the middle on the aesthetics of it. But I'm going to keep an open mind until we see the final product. Every time someone posts a photo or I'm downtown to see it myself, I have a different opinion on it.

The Penthouse resident's swimming pool should be highest in the Western Hemisphere to surpass Brooklyn Point (680 ft). in NYC.

The glass on the residential levels is killing me. Couldn’t it have some sort of pattern at least.

It's the exposed concrete for me. I'm hoping they could either paint it or put some material over it.

Same. I really like this tower, but the exposed concrete on the south face is a head scratcher.

Being the eternal optimist though, I just think about the fact that the Republic in all it's sleekness will soon block this view of 6X from a lot of vantage points.

The concrete will remain exposed unfortunately, matches up with this rendering.
