So that would mean they plan to break ground this spring?

I assume. If Tannery Place South is opening in fall 2019, they have no choice but to begin construction this spring.

What is the status of the new RCMP building? When do we anticipate hearing more? I.e. location, design

According to the T&T:

- Construction may begin early in 2019 (to open in 2020).
- There are identified potential building sites, but these have still not been made public. The tendering process however states that the new building must be within 1 km of the current building , and close to the provincial court house. This presumably means on currently vacant land (or a surface parking lot) south of Main Street.
- Three qualified builders have been chosen. The winner of the competition will be one of these three proponents.
- The building is estimated to cost about $40M.
- The building will be about 64,000 sq ft (~75% larger than the current building).

Moncton to pay $270K for new Victoria Park fountain

'Higher-than-anticipated' price tag due to ageing infrastructure under the fountain, says recreation manager

Still money well spent. Victoria Park is Moncton's classical "Victorian era" park. It needs to be retained in it's classical style. If a little more needs to be spent on the plumbing, I'm not going to complain.

I'm glad to see the city is still committed to this project.

Thank you. I thought perhaps it might be that as they are pretty cramped on the corner.

Interesting article in the T&T this morning about the "dip" in building permit numbers in Moncton so far in 2018. Kevin Silliker (head of economic development for the city) told the T&T not to worry, that this was typical for this time of year, and listed a number of building permits that were expected to be issued later in the year.

Most of the projects he listed were not a surprise (Hyatt, Junction Village etc), but he did make mention of the "Harper Street hotel project (? DoubleTree)." I wonder if this is an indication that the city actually expects this project to get off the ground???

Costco building permit should be this year too.

Not the proper thread (the [Moncton] Retail Thread would be better), but there are several rumours out there:

1) - Costco will continue to use the building in the short term as warehousing.
2) - Kent may relocate to the Costco site (which would require demolition and reconstruction)
3) - a new retail plaza will occupy the site (again demolition and reconstruction). We could take several flights of fancy as to what the replacement could be, but they would all be purely speculative.

The current Costco building is purpose built and nobody else will want it in it's current form - as such I am quite confident that it will ultimately be sold, demolished and the land repurposed.

EDIT - I just saw Josh's comment above, so I now understand why you posited your question here - sorry.

The old Acadian terminal on St George is being transformed into offices named Victoria Place which will primarily house Platinum Atlantic Realty. Renovations are already underway and offices are scheduled to be ready this summer.

Rather underwhelming (was hoping for a phase two of 55 Queen), though better than a vacant building.

Disappointing. Should be a new build with higher density, along with a plethora of other modifications.
