Sorry StevenF I remember viewing your photos but didn't get around to saying thanks for the update. I've been following these two developments for awhile now and It's great to see all the changes to those two areas that I for one think needed alot of help.

West Valley City is also in talks with some business companies who might want to relocate to their city center area. A office tower is in the planning stages that would go right next the Trax Station. ( I'm guessing around 6-10 stories. ) We might here more about this later this year.

You're right Steven. Sorry, Birkhill is one of my favorite projects too. I did post Lee's(SLCProjects) nice set of Birhill around the first of June in the Comp. Thread. Here's the link for that page. I'll definitely tune back in to the Central Metro in the next day or two.

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...93987&page=152

We're starting to see a lot of projects and some great forumer pics this Summer. I still need to catch up with the Northern Metro, especially some of the very attractive projects going on up in Logan and Utah State.

Delts you continue to do a outstanding job with keeping the Comp. Thread up to date. Keep up the good work.
when ever I look up and down those pages in that thread I'm just blown away with all the developments that have took place, taking place or about to take place.

Thank you.

I want you to get used to knowing that from time to time I will be out and about taking pictures. Its good knowing I have a wife that enjoys going on walks. The only issue I have is finding someone to watch 4 kids while my wife and I get out together. Though there is options of me going out by myself, if I can sneak out without my wife knowing. lol. I don't have a super fancy camera but think its good enough.

I love the Fireclay area, that is really going to be a vibrant TOD in the very near future. I would like to see the south end of the block that is not having apartments built, get a design similar to the current condo building on the west side of Main, something that has a nice street engagement on both streets.

That intersection could eventually be a really nice retail hub, with small neighborhood retail populating all four corner buildings. This is by far my favorite TOD along the Wasatch, so far.

I grew up in Cache Valley, but I haven't found any good threads on here that talk about Logan. What is the exact name of the thread so I can check it out? All the ones I've found are rarely updated (I know, Logan isn't exactly booming).

I definitely enjoyed seeing the pics, especially since they're areas that don't get a lot of picture love.

gemery: It's the 'Cache Valley' thread. I try to keep it updated from time-to-time.

Wow, it seems as if there needs to be one at approximately every 20 blocks or so as there are 2 relatively close to that area.

They bought the property for the South Jordan one and the Riverton one around the same time so this has been planned for a while. i wonder if they will shut down the 9800 South Walmart Neighborhood Market when that opens. That would leave another abandoned grocery store like the old Albertsons kitty-corner to the new Walmart. The southeast corner of that intersection had been planned to have a Costco. I have not seen anything on that in a few years. That Sandy Costco is packed so I wouldn't be surprised to see that go up still.

Well, speaking of Wal-Mart, the old K-Mart on Parleys Way on the east side of SLC is currently undergoing renovation to open up as a Wal-Mart in the next few months.

I have to agree with Councilman Luke on this matter. They should have allowed for a zoning change. A zone change would have provided more control by council in the overall development plan, which would have resulted in a much more attractive, and energy efficient development.

It's a Sam's Club on that corner. Costco WAS going in a cross the street of 10400 S (the S.E. corner of the intersection), but when Sam’s Club (Walmart co) heard this they bought the property a cross the street to compete. Costco as since pulled out and is looking for different property in the south-west area of the valley.

Claim Jumper renovation wins important vote

hauntedhouses.com

Panel recommends the project be allowed to move forward

http://www.parkrecord.com/ci_2109596...ce=most_viewed

By Jay Hamburger, The Park Record

The developers who want to redo the Claim Jumper building on Main Street cleared the Park City Planning Commission recently in a meeting that lacked the contentiousness of an earlier one centered on the property.

The panel cast a unanimous vote as it forwarded the project to the Park City Council. The elected officials are not bound by the recommendation. The developers have asked to combine six full lots and portions of two others into three lots. If that occurs, the developers would be allowed to pursue the renovation of the historic building and seek further approvals to build two houses on the Park Avenue side of the property.

The City Council is scheduled to consider the request on July 26...

...The developers want to renovate the Claim Jumper building with a restaurant-bar in the basement, a lobby and restaurant space on the Main Street level and two condominiums on the upper floors...

Historical Perspective, with a dash of the Supernatural thrown in.

HISTORY:

Park City Historical Society and John McCarthy

By Hal Compton

http://www.parkcitymagazine.com/Park...e-Claimjumper/

The Claimjumper” wasn’t the name of the building at 573 Main when it was constructed in 1913. Neither was it the first structure on that site. The first was a wood-frame hotel, destroyed in the Great Fire of 1898. It was quickly rebuilt as the Park City Hotel and managed by Mrs. Marie Hethke. Another fire in 1911, however, destroyed the hotel, including all of Mrs. Hethke’s furnishings. Oak Saloon owner, Henry Spriggs, felt sorry for Marie and enlisted the help of the local Commercial Club to raise money to rebuild the hotel. The fundraising effort produced $22,000, enough to construct a fine, three-story, brick building named the “New Park Hotel.”

The hotel was officially opened on November 3, 1913, with a grand opening dinner followed by dancing. The Park Record reported, “What a beautiful and commodious hostelry it is … a decided credit and great benefit to Park City.”

The New Park Hotel became the prestigious place to stay in Park City and The Park Record often printed the names of the guests staying there. The dining room also became a popular place to dine and the menus for holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas were often printed in The Park Record.

hauntedhouses.com

In September, 1952, The Park Record reported, “This week the New Park Hotel was boarded up and is now numbered among the has been.” The mines were closed and people were leaving, not arriving in Park City. In addition, Marie Hethke was seriously ill and died in 1958.

In 1965, the new owners of the historic building, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Johnson of Glen Rock, Wyoming, invested $270,000 in refurnishing and redecorating the 40-room hotel. Although the basic floor plan remained unchanged, a new bar and lounge called the Forge Room was built and soon became a popular “drinking hole” for the locals. The main dining room, called the Golden Sleigh Room, featured a genuine cutter sleigh. The second floor had beautifully decorated bedrooms while the third floor, called the Economy Room, had bunk beds and a large shower room.

The Claimjumper Hotel operated until 1992, when it was closed and converted to offices.

The living aren't the only ones who love the place. Perhaps this entity is a former owner or guest, keeping an eye on the living.

* A friendly presence is felt by many.

* An apparition is seen by staff and guests, just out of the corner of their eyes.

* Doors open and close by themselves.

* Foot steps are heard going up and down the stairs.

* Items are rearranged in a different order, than left by staff.

* Candles have been known to re-light themselves, while the TV in the basement saloon goes on and off by itself.

Still Haunted?
Yes indeed.

This entity is more than willing to share the building with the living.

Jordan Valley Station

Jordan Valley Station

I just read in the Enterprise the announcment of a joint venture TOD with UTA and Bangerter Station LLC, which is owned by Foursquare properties.

The development will be at the Jordan Valley Station (approx 3400 W 8600 S) and will be a truly mixed use TOD. The first phase will be two four story residential buildings consisting of a total of 252 units with a mix of 1 and 2 bedrooms, the residential units will wrap around two UTA parking garages.

Approximately half of the 900 spaces will be reserved for residential use, and the others for park and ride uses. Ground is scheduled to be broken on the two apartments buildings before the end of the year and will be completed in 12 to 18 months.

Total build out for the entire project will be completed as the market demands and will consist of 1,396 residential units, 83,200 sf of office, and 35,400 sf of retial.

Foursquare Properties owns Jordan Landing and is the company redeveloping the Sugarhouse Granite Furniture building. As a side note, Foursquare Properties said that most of the ground level retail spaces at the Granite site have been leased.
