The Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي for "Tower (of) Dubai") is a supertall skyscraper currently under construction in the "New Downtown" of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The building is part of a huge development located at the "First interchange" along Sheikh Zayed Road at Doha Street near the "Defence round-about". The lead architect is Adrian Smith, formerly of the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and now partner in the firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Its final height is officially being kept a secret due to competition; however, figures released by a contractor on the project have suggested a height of around 808 metres (2,651 feet).[2] Based on this height, the total number of habitable floors is expected to be around 162. However, on the project's official website, an interior graphic of an elevator panel shows floor numbers up to 195. A more recent article by building subcontractor Persian Gulf Extrusions states a final height "over 940 metres", or at least 3,084 feet,[3] but this has not yet been confirmed by Emaar. This new figure is 24 metres higher than the final height rumoured on burjdubaiskyscraper.com. Another source, from dubaimegaprojects.com reported an estimated final height of 1,011 metres and a floor count of 216 floors.

I hope no one is trying to compare the Sears Tower with CN....that's dumb. The Spire? No bragging until it gets built.

Vanhenrik,
Thanks for posting that diagram with the photo next to it. What I've always found confusing about this building is that when you see a photo it's hard to figure out which side of the building is being photographed and how that matches up with diagram. Now that they're getting to a much thinner part of the building maybe it will speed up the construction time. I've enjoyed watching it grow.

Hi all.
171 "new" pics into my collection over the past couple days. I would like to thank the SSP regular who pointed them out to me who shall remain nameless. His unmatched skills found all these in Flickr.

Here is the best 10 for your pleasure. None are from today because most people don't post the day they take them. If I lived in Dubai I would get you some pics from today. Being from the other side of the world, this is my way of contributing.

so place Abbco Rotana Hotel on top of the burj dubai end you got the final hight ! actoley it missing a round 30 m end that rely massive !

ABC World News Tonight just aired a segment on Dubai. They covered all the major talking points about the city and shot great aerials of all the megaprojects including day and night close-up aerials of the tower.

They will have a show about Dubai on Nightline tonight with more great aerial shots.

From the looks of the tower, it looks like it was shot around a week ago.

Nightline here is at 11:30 pm ET on ABC
