RobMidtowner,

I don't care what the color of your skin is either... I live in Adair Park (next door to the West End), and my neighborhood is about 30% white, and we get along just find. And, I'm glad to see some white folks move in and increase the value of homes in Adair Park.

I talk openly about race because it is important. My analogy about the 80/20 rule was being applied to social gatherings - not where people choose to live.

In Atlantic Station, the new owners are trying to change the social gathering spots, not the racial make-up of the housing stock.

So, yes it's about race. So speak frankly about it and deal with it.

personally i think AS suffers mainly from the what have you done for me lately mentality.
of course changing things up will fix this in the short term but it will need a landmark of some kind for a longterm fix

AS needs alot of things i'm wondering what AS would look like if it had made it to phase 3

AS will still make it to "phase 3." More residential, a hotel, a greenspace (to be developed into something later), and a Chelsea Market/Fanueil Hall type thing are all in the works.

Eventually, AS will be so built out that the Cirque du Soleil and the horse thing will have to relocate. I'd give it 5-8 years for all of this to happen.

Immediate changes are smaller. A redone parking garage that isn't as confusing. A recapitalized BB&T Tower (271 17th) to attract more tenants. A temporary greenspace. The closing of certain stores and restaurants.

Please keep ignorance out of this thread and the conversation solely on CONSTRUCTION. There is an entire Atlanta sub-forum to talk about the flaming pile of racist shit you guys are going back and forth over.

Thanks Mayhem...

I can deal with that.

The people in the town will talk about a crack in the road just so the ATLANTA forum will appear at the top of the City Compliation header.

Oh, I thought that thing at the top was a trellis for the rooftop kudzu garden.

To change gears a little bit, i don't know if it's been reported yet, but GSU is building a new dining hall on the front of the Baymont and Windham inns (new student housing they just bought). According to an email sent out to current residents, it would be over 12,000 square feet.

I wish the parking lot would be fully gotten rid of, but it's certainly an improvement.

Yeah, they have been since the beginning of last summer i believe (don't quote me, thats off the top of my head). Apparently they'll eventually (once work has been done on them) be 2 and 3 bedroom rooms, so hopefully that should be around about another thousand students living in Downtown.

I'm super interested in any projects that increase the number of people downtown, thanks for the info. So are there students living there while they work on them or do they do construction during the summer or something?

Mmpt

The executive summaries of the three groups competing for the MMPT project have been released.

This one contains a vague image of what it could look like.

I can't wait to see the full reports which will hopefully be released to the public in the next couple of weeks.

Atlanta City Council approves $9M for streetcar

"The Atlanta City Council moved forward with planning the Atlanta streetcar project at its Monday meeting by voting to approve $9 million to buy new streetcar vehicles and approving a construction contract with MARTA, said Duriya Farooqui, Atlanta's deputy chief operating officer."

Do they have to coordinate with the new Beltline plans for intown spurs or just build the E/W as planned?

I know that only one of them showed vague renders, but I like the way that the greenspace in that one is open up toward Phillips area, so the big ATLANTA structure on the front is visible. I feel like whatever is built should incorporate that idea.
