I can't believe it's only 58 floors.

^ i know, right?

but remember the 2nd floor is an 11k sq ft restaurant with an 110' ceiling and i think there is an auditorium or something above that, not to mention the mammoth ground level. that's all quite a bump up in height from the get go right there at the base.

also -- per wiki: there will be fewer stories in one vanderbilt than in other skyscrapers of similar height because each floor will have a ceiling that is 14.6 to 20 feet (4.5 to 6.1 m) high.

Remember, the crown covers a huge portion of the height. Also, towers like 30 Hudson, the WTC, etc. don't have the same number of floors relative to heights like the old school skyscrapers - the Empire State, 30 Rock, etc because floor heights are generally higher now. In fact, if 30 Rock were built today, it would be a supertall skyscraper. Same thing with the Pan Am building. All of those old skyscrapers that are in the 800 ft range that were built decades ago would be supertalls had they been built today. One Vanderbilt, sort of a luxury office tower, has even greater than typical floor heights on some floors. For a comparison, the Chase tower will have roughly 70 floors, reaching 1,400 ft (minus any type of crown). So, consider that's roughly only 12 more floors with about 300 ft or more of height.

This is interesting… zoning diagrams indicate 1,514 ft to the top of the spire…

Via latest date as of 03-18-2019

When we look at the document:

I wonder if this thing really did get a height boost? Maybe to the tip its actually 1,514 ft, because hasn’t been changed in the zoning diagrams within the most recent amendment posted.

Also on same date, note the amended

All them share the same “new building” job type

IDK… maybe I’m thinking too much into this???
