Jets management must be pretty disappointed in Big Buffet, never mind the DBI.

Nobody comes in 40 pounds or more over playing weight and does well. This is only Buff's second year as a full-time D-man. I'm not an alarmist, but I'm expecting a small disaster. Even if he plays as well as he can, he's overpaid. With the contribution we are likely to get out of a fat and sassy Buff, I don't think anyone will be too pleased.

His only saving grace now, is that if moved to the wing for power play duties, and parked in front of the crease, he could pretty much block out the other four skaters from the goaltenders view.

Jerseys to be released at a press conference on the base on Tuesday. Plenty of time for me to buy a couple before Oct 15th.

CBC Winnipeg (CWBT) is being switched to digital this month. They were supposed to make the switch for Aug 31st but missed the deadline due to structural issues on the top of the Richardson building for their DTV antenna.

They say that the cut over will happen on Sept 30th.

I suspect MTS and Shaw will change their HD feeds over to CBC Winnipeg soon (if not immediately) after the DTV feed is live.

Digital does not necessarily mean HD. I'll be thrilled if it does go HD though. Plenty of games conflict with Leaves/Habs games so of course those will be the ones on the more "national" feeds (CBC east/west).

The DTV conversions in Winnipeg (CTV, Global, CityTV and JoyTV) have all been HD.

Also all of the regional CBC DTV conversions in Canada have already been completed and are broadcasting in HD OTA.

Why would CBC Winnipeg be different?

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that.

But I do know of many people who've been unpleasantly surprised when they get "digital" service, only to find out that 90% of the content is still SD.

I'll freely admit that I'm almost completely ignorant of the OTA digital broadcast world. I've been on satellite so long now that I don't know what's going on in that space anymore.

This was the incredibly generic response I got back from Shaw regarding TSN Jets

Quote:
Hello,

As per TSN this station will only be broadcast in certain markets and TSN is in discussions with television service providers (Including Shaw) in the broadcast region with the hope of ensuring the broadest possible distribution of Jets games. Carriage of TSN Jets has already been confirmed by Bell TV, launching September 20. The Jets broadcast region includes Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, plus parts of Northwestern Ontario including Kenora, Dryden and Thunder Bay.

We hope this helps, Thank you.

This is deja vu from the Sportsnet One introduction. Some providers announced it just days before the regular season started. Had a few of us in quite a panic out here.

Any carrier that doesn't have TSN.Jets might as well close up shop in Winnipeg. While I suppose anything is possible, I have a hard time seeing Shaw, MTS, or Bell not carrying the channel.

I just bloody wish I could get it without paying $30/month. Maybe one of you nice Winnipeggers will set up a Slingbox for me.

Hmm.. is Saskatchewan out of the Sportsnet West territory then? That'd suck as there are lots of Flames/Oilers fans there, long pre-dating the original Jets leaving. If they get both - hot damn, lucky bastards. 3 teams on regional broadcast.

The response:

Thank-you for your e-mail rrskylar,

At this time MTS has not announced any agreement with Bell Media
about TSN Jets. Unfortunately we do not have a timeframe as to when
or if our lineup will include this channel. MTS TV customers will be
able to see 28 regular season games, which will be carried nationally
on CBC and TSN.

Sincerely,
Meg

In the last couple of years, it seems like MTS is doing everything in their power to lose as many customers as possible. They have already lost one more.

If MTS TV can't reach a deal to host the TSN.Jets channel by the start of the regular season they will have lost me as a customer.

MTS will look stupid as shit if their cable system can't carry the televised games from an arena they paid big bucks to have their name on.

I imagine MTS will be getting this channel prior to the start of the regular season. Someone claiming some insder information eluded to as much on HFboards.

In any event, as I sit waiting for the satellite signal for Bell to return during a thunderstorm in Kenora, and as someone who has switched back and forth from mts to shaw about 4 or 5 times in as many years, I am staying with MTS (at home). Their TV IMO is superior to shaw, and the guide system is far superior to both shaw and bell (TSN Jets or no TSN Jets).

Awesome....I called him a name a while back which offended (easily) some.....I stand by that. The Jets need to find a team dumb enough to take him in a trade. 5 million a year for him? NOT!
