I heard a credible rumor today that a lady in her 80's from outside Swift Current has won the $60 million Lotto Max prize.

Maybe it's a lonely spinster who is about to get a whole bunch of new friends?

^ How did that thing even end up there? Is it just sitting on an abandoned rail line?

That ad seems totally legit: "yo dawg I heard you like trains, I got an ex-CN train here, $30K but for you special deal, only $25K, last chance"

Its from the closed Tembec Pine Falls paper site, was used to switch cars around after they were dropped off by CEMR. Some years ago it was for sale with the tag "not available for shipment in Canada". Never did figure out what that was about.

About 2 years ago CEMR pulled up the rail line from Pine Falls to just beside the Selkirk Hydro Steam Plant so if it comes out is has to be on a low bed truck

In pieces maybe. That unit runs around 250,000 pounds.

Would need to get one of them multi-axled trailers that haul transformers and the like.

^ Sounds like the unit's owner should be paying you to take it off their hands... I wonder what the scrap value of that thing is?

No they are still very valueable. It is unlikely any new ones will be built due to emissions requirements making them very expensive.

City of Winnipeg just closed a tender for some used ones for the GWWD Railway and the tender price came in around $500,000 for a working one.

I just took a quick look at the tender so I don't know how old they were willing to go to buy one.

the one for sale was built in 1951 according to internet searches.

All parts are readily available. GWWD has already rebuilt at least one of theirs in-house.

My point was even old junkers can be fixed easily. They are simple old two stroke diesels.

Yeah locos are quite expensive. A few million for a brand new one.

I was reading recently about CN specifically, and a lot of their loco's are already compliant with the new Canadian emissions regulations, as the USA is already following similar regs (go figure). So all the newer 6 axle loco's are fine. It's the older 4 axled locos, like the clunker for sale above, that are going to be obsolete without expensive upgrades.

Most locos are two-stroke and therefore are not able to be "upgraded". Only new four stroke engines could meet emissions requirements.
