A pic of one of our naval ships that was out doing maneuvers in the basin this morning.

Eighty years since D-Day. I was born 20 years after WWII but I remember it figuring into my life in terms of overhearing conversations of who did or did not return from the war. And then there was my uncle Alec who wasn't really my uncle but rather a man with no legs that my grandfather brought home from the war as the fellow had no other place to go or call home. In my maternal grandparents house he was the only one with his own room. That five bedroom farmhouse with one bathroom housed a minimum of 10 people but usually more. Typical boomers upbringing I suppose. At least for country-raised boomers. As for the weather... today is forecast to be a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 25 (17 where breezes come off the water) and a humidex of 27.

According to CBC supper hour news last evening we were 1.6 higher than average for May. Thankfully we seem to be beyond the below normal temps of the early spring. TWN has said to expect an above normal summer in terms of heat. Fingers are crossed that it stays below 30.[/QUOTE]

I believe we are about the same age, and Yes i grew up with neighbours that were in the war. My family ( Grand Parents work munitions factories in Ontario) My mother once talked about a wooded area by Lake Ontario near Oshawa that they knew not to go in. But would here the occasional explosions. We later learned that was the famous Camp X.

A few years ago my wife and I had the opportunity to walk on Juno Beach. I can't imagine the fear and have to run across those rocks.

With the warmer weather hopefully now settled in. I and a group of coworkers are doing a "TEAM building" exercise tomorrow and heading down to ride the Highwood pass (Canada's Highest Paved Road).

From the last report I got on Monday. There is still about 4 inches of snow the last 4 kms. (The steepest Portion).

I've seen it all...
At 1PM: Kuujjuarapik, QC is recording 34.2C.
That actually beats Lytton as the warmest temperature recorded in Canada this year.

2PM: Kuujjuarapik, QC at 34.6C

I am in downtown Ottawa for meetings this afternoon, and it is literally early evening dark outside. Think the middle of dusk, just before transitioning to full darkness. Street lights are all on.

22C and light rain. 31 humidex.

Severe thunderstorm warning.

Nice day so I didn’t subway it up to Sherbourne and Bloor. Walked and used streetcar and bus. Then walk through Cabbagetown and bus down to Distillery. Then bus to the lake before going back to the office.

Whether a nice day or miserable day, it’s preferable to walk around in the latter Neighbourhoods than the dystopian first one. Though I like how they added a fancy entrance sign to the neighbourhood.

And Love Park’s water is still green. Pic from a week ago and today. Is there supposed to be that much scum on the bottom? I actually walked by but didn’t go up the pool itself to see how noticeable it is at street level.

The bad stretch of weather is nearly behind us. Flow will switch to southwesterly late this weekend, looking like temperatures will be near or above 20 for much of next week.

You need a bigger TV. That's practically an ipad from where you're sitting.

Not in St. James Town. There are worse things to look at there, all around unfortunatelly.

27C with a humidex of 34 and cloudy. Still comfortable temperature wise. Rain started this evening.

Low of 22C (humidex of 27) this morning. Won't be the official low though because of the rain this evening.

The warmspot was Kuujjuarapik, QC at 35.3C. First 35C temperature in Canada this year and it happens on the shores of Hudson Bay.

Warmest low was Kuujjuarapik, QC at 21.9C. Harrow's 19.9C is the new record low in the country but it could be short lived. Kuujjuarapik is actually a few hours away from recording the FIRST official tropical low of 2024 in Canada. It's 25C at 11PM.

I don't care how cold Hudsons Bay is, if the temperature reaches that high up there, it should be obligatory to take a dip.

It was warm and humid this week, temps of 26 to 28 the past few days, with a few rounds of thunderstorms. Now there's some cooler, dryer air moving in.

Lake Erie this evening

Black locust on the beach

Common hoptree also likes the beach, rare in Canada

Kiwi vines in flower, back at my house. These were clearance items at a garden centre a couple years ago. I stuck them in a less than prime location and they haven't thrived, but it looks like they may produce fruit anyway. Now I'm curious to try them

Summer is nigh. Sunny, warm, dry.

Thursday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 19 C, the low was 10 C.

Great pics as always!

I’m happy to see the palms are still bearing fruit! Which means at least in English Bay they weren’t damaged by the cold snap in January.

For Windmill Palms the reproductive organs are the first part of the plant to be damaged by cold, so in some spots you can have a damaged palm that still grows fronds and looks healthy, but won’t produce flowers / fruit.

Also, I saw a story that this year the last two of the Halifax / Dartmouth public palms have died. This may be hard to believe, but I don’t take that as good news. It was a neat experiment and it would have been nice for a least one location or two too have survived / continued.

Tank top. Strong sun (EDIT: short lived, lol). Sunscreen. WTF is happening!?

EDIT: And two new birds. What a day! Just waiting until it's polite to mow this Jesus lawn for only the second time this year lol

I've decided that magnolia warbler is here only because I planted that magnolia tree. It came with the tree, like fruit flies.

EDIT: All mowed, baby!

It already is an upgrade, ha! Dad got a new one and gave me this one, much larger than the one that was there before

It's big enough for me.
