He would probably name the team the Tesla Texans - so much for Austin's big city name recognition ;-)

The new rumor about a supertall was for the 410 E. 5th St. site (Avenue Lofts) which is currently 54-stories on city filings. The 90-Story tower comment was made by one the property owners/developers of the 3rd & Congress site next to the Austonian. And we still have the Railyard/ATX Towers site...

Connecting the Dots at Rainey Street’s Long-Awaited Pocket Park

https://austin.towers.net/connecting...d-pocket-park/

As part of the upcoming expansion of the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in the Rainey Street District of downtown Austin, we’re finally getting a park on the city-owned scrap of land at 64 Rainey Street. The fate of this 0.27-acre parcel became a hot topic of discussion starting roughly a decade ago, as the MACC and developers of the adjacent 70 Rainey condo tower triangulated its future in the rapidly-gentrifying context of the neighborhood — now, as the district contemplates the tallest tower in the state, can the design of this small space satisfy everyone? Well, probably not, but the city’s trying its best with the kickoff of a community engagement process for the planning of the park at a number of events starting later this month.

Edit: Nvm...I see now Ave Lofts is not a supertall.

As of 6:30 this morning, the city removed all attachments including elevations from site plan applications. Good thing we made copies. But I suspect it's a temporary glitch.

Lowering the height threshold to include all of the 500+ footers makes it even more amazing.

Queen of the Netherlands cruises downtown Austin by bike on royal visit

https://www.statesman.com/story/news...r/66043935007/

The City of the Violet Crown got a royal visitor on Thursday, when Queen Máxima of the Netherlands took an excursion through downtown Austin as part of a visit to the United States.

Máxima joined Mayor Steve Adler and other city officials for a scenic trip on a Gazelle e-bike along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail from Austin City Hall to the Central Library.

To celebrate the arrival of Máxima and the "long-standing cultural and economic" friendship between the Texas capital and the European country, Adler proclaimed Sept. 8 as Netherlands-Austin Friendship Day.

"This relationship is celebrated through frequent exchange among Austin civic leaders and their Dutch counterparts, including this unprecedented visit to us and on this day in September by her majesty, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands," Adler said at the event.

It's gobsmacking that 500+ barely ranks a mention any more. 3 years ago a new 500 footer would've been huge news.

I don't think we're in a bubble or anything, but that pace of change feels both unreal and deeply suspect. How can our market change that quickly? It seems to violate a lot of unspoken natural rules (which are, if I think about it, mostly my preconceptions about how fast American cities can grow).

Anyway, it's wild and sometimes hard to comprehend.

I remember when then Prince Charles came to Austin in 1986 to help celebrate Texas's 150 birthday. And 5 years later Queen Elizabeth was here for a three day visit of Texas. I tried but didn't get a glimpse of either one. It's rare, but we are no strangers to Royalty here.

HM Queen Elizabeth flew the Concorde here on that trip. They landed at Bergstrom AFB. I still have a picture of it somewhere in one of my picture books.

And how dare Adler make a Queen (in a dress) ride a bike in this heat. Jeez, drive her in a Tesla to the dang library. Better yet - a dually!
