The funny thing about the Church Supply site, is that building really wasn't there for very long. I remember when the "Rose" building was demolished to build a Sasktel store (later closed and became the Church Supply store). The Rose building was one of the older buildings in downtown area,..........wish they would of restored it.

As for Lenore Swstun, wish she would just go away.

And it's really sad to see a another wonderful piece of Saskatoon's rich architectural heritage torn down... Long live the Church Supply thingy.
Actually I've revealed all I know.

Some activity on the site beside the Canada Building... they've dug it out, put in some forms and poured some concrete. I'm thinking 40 storey luxury hotel/condo.

Why stop at 40? Do I hear 50?

I actually liked the drawings for the proposal there. Nothing too big, but fills the gap. I wonder what retailers they suckered...I mean... convinced to set up shop there.

Suckered? It's a pretty prime location. If you can't get on 21st proper, around the corner isn't too bad. Am I wrong in thinking a building was torn down that was there?

Just funning about re: the suckered. It's Saskatchewan, were supposed to be self effacing (that's what they told me when I moved here).

I seem to recall there was something there before, but I can't form a mental picture of it.

You must have got the wrong memo. We're supposed to be self aggrandizing (oh hang on, that's the "Welcome To Alberta" memo...). I remember a non descript one storey grey building with windows papered with "tgs properties", and wondering what was going to go in there. Hopefully we get something better than "Glamour Secrets". That belongs in the mall. Or on 8th.

Apparently the upper floor suites in the Ken Achs owned Laurentian Bldg. (now with Frakas and Watch It! as tenants) will be converted into condos. This is a great building, and a great location for a condo, I think.

That's a nice little stretch of urban streetscape...with the glaring exception of the Professional Building. They really need to reface that thing. It's an embarassment.

How society decided at one point that any facade looks better than the brickwork of the early 20th century, I'll never understand. There are several buildings along 2nd ave that are beautiful, yet are covered with stucco and other materials on their main floor. Just a nightmare.

Thanks for the scoop Stewie.

The urban purist in me poo poos parkades and the like, while the realist in me is well aware that, until we get an LRT here (shortly after the evolution of the flying pig is my best guess) people will primarily drive downtown. A parkade is certainly better than a surface lot in my world.

Street level retail in this new parkade would be nice.

Damn those incessant demo monkeys...

...all I get out of those demo guys is scraps of information, and excuses like "we are unaware of the future plans of the owners; and; we don't know any more than... it is going to be some kind of parking structure for 120+ cars... Absolutely no time line or any other information..

Let the speculation begin then, Stewie. How many cars do you need for what size hotel? How big is the parkade at the Radisson, for instance? 120 cars could equal 120 rooms. So how big would a 120 room hotel be? I think I have a problem....

The Bess and Sheraton aren't verry tall, but they have a bigger footprint than the Extra Foods site...

Maybe the parkade is partly to replace the spaces lost when the southwest corner of 23rd and 3rd is developed.

OK, now I'm just stirring shit.
