Maybe someone with an engineering background could answer, but I could only imagine it's something like with the blue glass, how that's somehow more energy efficient? Either way, it went from looking not half bad, to looking terrible.

Nope, paint is purely aesthetic. Of course, white and light color paint reflects more light and so doesn't absorb as much heat, but doesn't make much of a difference.

Blue tinted glass tends to have a higher light-to-heat gain ratio than you silver/neutral tints. The black window tints have lower light transmittance into the building which is why you see a lot of blue/blue-green tints on more modern buildings as you receive similar heat gain properties as black but way more "natural light" coming into your building. It's great for residential.

Blue also gives off a more trendy look so it could come down to aesthetics too.

The tower crane plans were posted at AULCC today. It'll have one crane 510' tall with a planned installation (If I say erection the Genral giggles ) in December. Site Demo is still on track for August 1st as far as I know. But that is dependent on their demo permit to block part of the street gets approved in time.

Agreed. I'd take the existing building anyday over what's replacing it.

According to AULCC documents over the past three weeks, the planned start of construction has moved from November to May.

Location is everything...I'd love this building, as is, if built in the Domain...But downtown? Disaster!

I don't get all the hate. I think it looks a nice. Lots more expression than many other blue glass towers downtown.

I mean . . . it's infill. I was disappointed initially (coulda been taller, coulda been prettier, coulda chosen another block that wasn't part of a recognizable entertainment district) but have come to terms with it. We need towers of all kinds, including non-exceptional ones.

Prediction: the cladding on this is actually going to make this one of our most handsome towers, and most of the complainers will change their minds once it starts going up.

Personally I think we're too small a city to need infill.
Happy to Wait for the better visual statements....
I'm never interested in filler.
