^ There was never much school pride in Winnipeg, it's fairly rare to see people repping their schools. By contrast, U Sask merch is a more common sight there. Not widespread, but certainly more common.

I have a hoodie and baseball cap from Carleton U. Pretty much everybody I know that went to Carleton or uOttawa has atleast a hoodie or a t-shirt from the schools + things like lanyards, hats, etc. I imagine the rivalry and things like the Panda Game helps boost the school pride. Only one of my friends that went to Algonquin College has any merch.

I even have a hoodie from my high school.

uOttawa merch is easier to spot outside of the campus thanks to the Burgundy.

Western is a good school, known for partying and has that distinct purple. That would definitely be a good candidate for most likely to show school spirit through merch. Though I just checked with my sister, who graduated a decade ago and says the two shirts she had were tossed out a few years later and that was that. My bro went to Brock and there was never any chance he would have any gear, particularly since his entire wardrobe consists of basically one dozen articles of clothing. Very simple lifestyle.

You would think that in an on office, where people have random knick knacks on their desks, they’d have a school mug or water bottle , but thinking about it now, I can’t recall a single example.

good for you. I only use the still official legal name of the University (of Western Ontario).

It looks increasingly clear now that the old Royal Vic hospital site will be in part ingested by McGill University. Good news!

Such great news! I always hoped that it would become part of the campus. Proposal looks good from what I can see.

Ryerson University announces it will be renamed

TORONTO -- Ryerson University announced Thursday that it has accepted a recommendation to begin the renaming process.

The decision comes after growing calls to examine the legacy of Egerton Ryerson, an architect of Canada's residential school system, which separated 150,000 Indigenous children from their families.

A statement released by president and vice-chancellor Mohamed Lachemi said that the Ryerson Board of Governors saw the Standing Strong (Mash Koh Wee Kah Pooh Win) Task Force’s final report Thursday and will accept all 22 of their recommendations, one of which is to rename the post-secondary institution.

"Recongizing the harm caused to community members by the commemoration of Egerton Ryerson, the impossibility of upholding our institutional values while commemorating Egerton Ryerson and the necessity of advancing reconciliation, we recommend that: the university rename the institution in a process that engages with the community members and university stakeholders," the task force said.

it is a good opportunity to rebrand Ryerson, which, let's face it, doesn't have the greatest reputation in Academe...it is seen as a university-of-last-chance.

Rye High.

We have relatively few schools named after people though, so if stuff gets uncovered about them this won't be a long process (e.g., McMaster, which would cause a flood of renaming around Hamilton; also Dalhousie, Brock, Laurier, McGill).

I'm not calling for anyone to delve into namesake pasts looking for sordid details and skullduggery, nor suggesting any of those people have any dark secrets, but one can imagine there are some folks out there who have been doing the research.

In Laurier's case, it would represnt a second name change for WLU.

Cool video of UdM. The Roger-Gaudry building is my favourite art deco piece in the country.

The video also shows the sorry state of the public realm on the UdM campus though. Walking around the main buildings is a pretty uninspiring experience.

In academia maybe. The focus on professional programs has vastly boosted its desirability with prospective students, especially over the last two decades, as Toronto got saturated with BAs and BScs from York and U of T.

Curious to see what they name it.
