It's the sky bridge. There were plans posted a long time ago on here somewhere.

Edit: Found this http://www.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm?id=226320 from Deerhoof circa 2015.

That is on one one the plans....
interesting to have it not come from the building itself. Must relate to the underground parking and further development???>>???

The skybridge was originally planned back when Whole Foods was going to lease most of Shoal Creek Walk, so that employees could have an easy way to travel between the two buildings without waiting on traffic lights. But Whole Foods didn't end up leasing Shoal Creek Walk. Cirrus Logic and a few other tenants have signed leases for most of the building. I'm surprised they are still going through with the skybridge. Of course, it makes it easy for tenants of the building to get to Whole Foods for lunch, so it's still useful.

ah... that's right... makes sense ......
And it makes sense for the Whole Foods Building as well. It probably won't always be Whole Foods HQ... or they could end up in the Shoal Creek building as well. So having them connected will probably be of benefit at some point.
thanks

It looks like its primary purpose is to evacuate Shoal Creek Walk in the event of an emergency and that's how it was approved.

Correct. The whole site is in the flood plain, so they had to have an alternative means of egress in a flood to get a building permit.

I don't see the point of those angles if they weren't going to angle the windows as well.

They are odd, and subtle, and dizzying, to me anyway, but anything, ANYTHING, different, even ever so slightly, is good...except for the 2 buildings, one proposed, the other u/c of which most of you know I have a slightly negative opinion of. The stack of shoe boxes, and the tv on a stand. I have embraced the Independent after a slow start on my like it or hate it meter.

Do you think this is going to separate the haves and the have-nots?

Refresh my memory, is this supposed to cross Bowie toward the southern portion of the block?

Part of also what makes the Angles ineffective is the grid on the windows. I take it that was cost savings??? If those were all simple large plates of glass you would see the angles of the walls more. Alas.... either by design or costing the effect has certainly been mitigated.
As others.... I'm happy for the effort......

Does anyone know if the skybride went up across West Ave this weekend as planned? The webcam is now out of business.

It did not. West Ave? I thought this was the one that's supposed to go across Bowie St. and to Whole Foods. I don't see any signs of connectivity on either structure. Unless that 3-story steel frame skeleton is where it's connecting on the Shoal Creek Walk side.

Yes, I meant Bowie or whatever that street is that floods all the time.

That's a great pic . . . and points out just how weird that skybridge and open concrete space (parking deck?) actually is. It's weird. Even though it's under a CVC, you could still have theoretically built five more stories of something underneath it.

I was wondering the same thing. I wonder if that will be incorporated in the shorter building once it's up.
