I really hope you are correct in that because i would love to see them pay a huge price. However , i don't want the WR to replace then as the have made it clear that they support the government for pulling the plug.

The more I speak to people 'in the know' the more it sounds confusing and outright bewildering.

I suspect it was more of a screw up on the part of the new Minister than anything else. But, that is the fault of the breaucrat that put the funding shortfall on the first page of the briefing note, but put that it was always expected to be funded in future budget years by the province on the second page!

Staples: Downtown RAM project, right place, right time

By David Staples, edmontonjournal.com
November 4, 2011 6:37 AM

EDMONTON - Premier Alison Redford and Edmonton’s senior federal minister Rona Ambrose have a few decent reasons to hesitate before signing off on the Royal Alberta Museum project.

In the end, though, more compelling reasons should convince Redford and Ambrose not to renege on the funding commitments made by their respective governments...

Was listening to Global News this morning, and Mandel said yesterday that he got an update from both Ambrose and the province, and that the RAM could be back on track as early as this week! Wish I had a link to post.

See, unless the province totally caved, it was impossible to reconcile the fact the building canada fund portion for edmonton did not have room to pay for both the Nait LRT portion, and the RAM.

I suspect the federal commitment will be from the 2014+ timeframe.

What a schmozle.

Rona screwed up early in the year and incorrectly announced $100 million for the NAIT LRT at a luncheon when it it was suppose to be $30 million. Mandel jumped on (her mistake) like a fat kid at an all you can eat buffet line given that it was shortly after the the feds announcement that they would not contribute to Expo. She couldn't exactly reneg on what she had said. But, the RAM was the opportunity to balance the books and make up for Rona's mistake. It is a big game they are playing. The next thing will be the feds will take money that they already committed to LRT and apply it for RAM. That is why Mandel was quick to say that funding has already been secured for LRT. So it will again look like the feds are the bad guy.

MP defends contradiction in museum funding statements

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/story/2011/11/08/edmonton-laurie-hawn-ram-funding.html

Quote:
Edmonton Centre MP Laurie Hawn says the $85 million he once told constituents was committed to the new Royal Alberta Museum changed after the province altered the project.
Quote:
...in a 2009 pamphlet, Hawn claimed Ottawa was providing $85 million in funding for the museum. He told reporters on Tuesday that statement wasn't a contradiction.

"That was done by me in good faith based on information we had at the time," Hawn said. "The deal was never finished because the province changed the project."

Hawn declined to tell reporters the source of the $85 million. He would only say it was information he received from Ottawa.

Hawn says the federal government wants to work with the provincial and municipal governments to get money needed for the $340 million museum.

At the EEDC luncheon, it was said by people at the Province that it is 'back on'.

What that means? I suspect the media will pick up on it.

^I think he mentioned it when talking about budget pressures; either that or when he was talking about infrastructure and cultural facilities

The federal government plans to put $92.5 million toward the city's new Royal Alberta Museum, restoring funding city officials thought was taken off the table just weeks ago, The Journal has learned.

Edmonton-Centre MP Laurie Hawn is expected to announce the funding Wednesday, in time to meet the contract-signing deadline with Ledcor Design Group to secure the $340-million museum, bringing to an end weeks of speculation and debate over the project's future.

Well then, less federal funding for something then. I wonder where it was moved from (LRT, Ring Road) - not that that matters, all an accounting exercise.

Interesting indeed... We'll see how the province responds, especially the Wild Rose considering their comment after the fiasco started a month ago.
