Thanks for the pic philo. I'm looking forward to seeing the neighborhood impact when the rec center, the Cyan, and the new light rail line come into play. The Cyan could be a great place for seniors to live if they want to take advantage of the practically zero cost to take classes at PSU. We always had several seniors in our art/architecture history and foreign language classes, studying up before vacationing. Never had them in our calculus classes though, for some strange reason.

Regarding a younger generation- I wonder whatever happened to the plan to build new student housing just south of the Cheerful Tortoise...

How is this progressing? There haven't been any photos posted in nearly two months. If anyone happens to be in the neighborhood with a camera, please do us out-of-towners a favor. It must be nearly complete on the outside by now.

Looks ok. The angle from the urban center is way better, but this is what I get to look at everyday.

let's see if this works.

The MAX line is almost ready to open, looks like they just need to finish the shelters.

The basketball court area looks great, hopefully they have some kind of plan for non students local residents or alumni.

Pool is on the second floor, I think the track and courts are on the west side of the building, if I recall. 2nd/3rd floor.

looks nice. i like how it matches the urban center across the plaza. and it's much better than the old 1-level blue brick masterpiece previously occupying the space...

Much of the fencing has been removed from around the plaza side of the building. It looks like they might be using at least part of the building once school starts on the 28th.

it blends into the area fine, the courtyard area is the building's only real selling point, which was the only selling point when it was a rendering. The other three sides of the building help create another very bland looking building on campus, and the south side of the building clearly comes off as the ass of the building where little effort in design and overall look was applied.

Not to say it is a bad building, its just not one to win any awards or get noticed by anyone...which when the Living Building happens across the street, this building will probably will hardly be what people notice in the area.

Though I will say out of the submissions that the college had for this building, it could of been much worse for the campus if the picked one of the other designs...this one was clearly the safest choice.

Sports and Leisure Center

Now this would of made a great Rec Center for a college....it is a shame the college went with such a boring building instead.

Amazing what you can do with some nice lighting and color siding. I can't see this design being more expensive then the PSU building. Is it simple a lack of creativity from local architects?
