I hate Vancouver's skyline. It is atrocious. It has no form. It is flat. The buildings are all badly designed and generic. Signature towers are few and far between and unfortunately blend into the rest of the skyline without actually defining the city's skyline like a signature tower should.

I'd love to mimic Vancouver's street activity, sure, but I'd rather do it in a more interesting and aesthetically pleasing way.

I understand your reasoning, but calling this skyline, which is kind of breathtaking to behold, atrocious is a little over the top. I think it is pretty damn impressive.

Yeah I know... I don't get it. I've always held it as my second favorite skyline behind NYC.

Just a few photos I took walking through Zilker Park for the 85th annual Zilker Kite Festival.

1. The pedestrian bridge under Mopac was full of people

2. From underneath Mopac south of the pedestrian bridge.

3. CapStar Partners

4. It was crowded

5. A sea of humanity

6. Lots of food & lines everywhere

7. The weather was perfect, though

8. Kites & skyine

9. Kites & skyline

Still not computing. Still not computing. You all are wrong. Flat out WRONG!

Except about Vancouver being in Canada. Yes, I meant North America.

By the way, Spring was designed by a Canadian architecture firm from Vancouver.

haha That's actually not a huge surprise now that I think about it.

And it's nice to know I'm not alone with my opinion. I was starting to think I just didn't "get it."

Count me in as being unimpressed with Vancouver's skyline. I went there last year all excited because of all the hype of how awesome it was. What a letdown.

I don't remember seeing this many people at the kite festival before. It seems like its gotten a bit too big and over crowded.

Yeah that doesn't really look fun. Kinda reminds me of the photos of the Chinese water parks.

It's mostly a spectator event. It really is something to see. And yes, the weather that day could not have been better. It wasn't too bad. I was even wandering around with my bike in all that, walking it of course.

I was there and it was truly something, also besides not getting hit by kites when they fall. I even had one kite wrap around my left leg and had a hard time getting it off. It was pretty funny though.

Every year I go it seems like I ride through or over some abandoned (abandoned?) kite string across Barton Springs. This time it snapped in half before I stopped. One thing occurred to me while taking photos was that it makes a mess of the trees. I'm sure the City workers have no shortage of free kites.

Some photos I took a few weeks back. The striking weather makes it look like an eastern bloc city.

Gables Park Plaza II highest floor was not yet complete.

311 Bowie, second crane was not up yet.

Nice pics! I love the look of the hills. You're right, it looks like Pittsburgh or Cincinnati - minus the row houses. Welcome to the forum.
