I really do hope they plan on wrapping that building with a building wrap Olympic banner.

i certainly hope not! why would you want to cover it up after it's been under wraps for years?

besides, it's a hotel. there's no way it's going to be covered in a wrap during the games - especially since they spent millions on restoring it. i'd rather see some run of the mill building get a wrap than this beauty.

but it’s extremely doubtful that it will be open in time for the Olympics as originally planned. No affiliation has been announced etc. so if its not going to be operating might as well cover it up in Olympics wrap...if in fact that’s the plan...who knows

the hotel chain was announced a long time ago. It's part of the "Hotel Valencia" brand and it is suppose to open before the games. that was the plan anyway.

That's incredible news. Can anyone confirm for sure that it will really be open for the Games? I too had thought I had read somewhere that it wouldn't be ready, but i'd love to be mistaken on that.

It would be great to have the heritage hotel reopened during the Games.

I didn't think it would be open in time for the Games...i was assuming those worker supports would still be around, and it would've been a good idea to hide it all with banners.

Thanks! I was under impression that affiliation was still just rumoured, but I guess not. However, unless a specific group has booked the whole thing for the Olympics, wouldn’t they be taking reservations or have an actual site for the hotel by now? I would also assume David Hawksworth is pretty keen to get his restaurant open given he left West, what, 2 years ago now?

The paper had a photo last month of Hawksworth serving lunch to the construction workers as a promo for the restaurant

It was mentioned ( I think somewhere earlier in this thread) that Steven Spielberg had reserved a room for the Olympics. Not sure if that was just a rumour.

Presumably they would already be seeking a group rental for the Olympics if it was on track to be completed by then.

Incidentally, the top floor will feature a spacious 3-bedroom Presidential suite (occupying about a quarter of the western portion of the floor).

Also, I think there are plans for a nightclub on the lower level. Anyone have any details?

Given that block of Howe is essentially devoid of life, it will have some pretty decent dining options when Hawksworth opens, along with Yew and Diva (which doesn’t get much attention anymore, but is still pretty good)

hotel georgia new wrap

the new wrap is the largest canadian flag.... with smaller script along the bottom that says "[email protected]"...... there are no reservations .... it is set to partly be open for xmas of 2010, not sooner.... only the preexisting renovation of the old hotel and the first 14 floors of the tower will be open for then. set completion is 2012 for the entire project, and I know this cause I am in fact working on site. any questions just ask

Thanks for the outstanding photo. You have a great vantage point from your location. Was this taken from The Canadian?
