all the same, this is the one bike path that makes some sense. It just doesn't feel like a winnipeg bike path without some sort of insane stupidity to go along with it.
I say just send the LRT down Raleigh and leave vehicular traffic to use Gateway.

The few businesses that use Raleigh could easily be serviced from other streets or using an extended "driveway" along the rail line.

Looks like the roadway has been staked and some earth moving has started...can be seen along Gateway or Springfield.

Finally!

Yay!

I noticed one of the area candidates is against this project, saying it won't relieve traffic on Springfield.

I live very close by and they have nearly completed all of the clearing from Lagimodiere to Gateway. They are now working on Gateway to Henderson. Hopefully they will be able to keep as many trees as possible. Roadways always look nicest with good greenery.

By the look of things they have left a lot of trees on either side of the clearing they have done along Stewart. That candidate you speak about is an idiot, in one of her campaign pamphlets she rails against the proposed sound barrier wall because it will be a target for graffiti artists. I proudly removed one of her campaign signs from a public park near my place.

I too will admit to removing unwanted signs from public places. Good man Sipowitz!

What!?! For real??

I've waited my whole life to see this..

Mind you, gowing up in NK I don't think the CPT is necessary. The traffic volume in the old hood just isn't there.

Much rather it stay green space. But, hurray for realizing lost 1960's dreams!

Agreed. A true parkway.

I think the job they did in Charleswood is pretty nice.

I think the Charleswood Parkway is excellent and hope that Chief Peguis will turn out much the same.

Traffic volume is definitely there . In fact , it's been necessary for decades .
This land was never supposed to be green space and was specifically set aside for a road corridor . You can think of it as a 60's dream if you want to I guess but the simple fact of the matter is that it's one of the few roadway expansions that makes any real sense . Unlike the CCW or the new roadworks in Waverley West , this is an arterial that should have been constructed about twenty years ago .

Don't forget , the roads that people currently use were never designed to accommodate the volumes we see today . Further , those feeder routes both destroy the tranquility of the neighbourhoods they pass through due to their traffic counts and end up costing us more in the long term due to overuse . The city could have saved a lot of cash had it built this corridor when it was supposed to .

Agreed. Try driving down Springfield in morning and afternoon rush hours, or hell, even the whole day. It's busy, and it's a constant stream of cars. When this extension is completed, I'm sure the folks living on Springfield will be GLAD that the traffic is relieved off their street. I know I would if I were living on Springfield.

I'll also kindly disagree, the volume on streets like McLeod, Edison, Springfield, Stewart, McIvor... overwhelms them. (in fact only McLeod and Springfield directly connect Hend. and Lag., all three two way regional streets) There clearly is no major east-west roadway between the Disraeli and the Perimeter, the CPT should have been continued east right after the Settlers Bridge was built way back in 1990. The road allowance for the CPT has sat vacant since the late 1960's, it's about time NE Winnipeg saw a roadway from this century!

I can't wait until the road goes all the way to McPhillips St.

Though I will probably have to.

Yeah, that would be nice. It would also relieve some traffic on Leila and Partridge, all the way to McPhillips. Although at the moment, I don't think we need it yet, but with CentrePort starting up, and Amber Trails growing bigger at the far northwest side of Leila/Pipeline, I think it may be next right after the extension to Lag is complete, so it may be sooner rather than later.

Considering the city expropriated all the homes and acquired the land for the portion of the CPT west of the river about 15 years ago work should begin very soon in 2025!
