I just checked and it was almost 7 years ago when the previous buildings were demolished. It's so great to see it rising now. There were many times in those 7 years I wondered if this would ever get built.

It was really cool to have five close towers with bright construction lights glaring at me as I drove over the Bay Bridge last night with more to come!!
At 399 Fremont, Swinerton is currently pouring concrete on floor 17 out of 44 total stories. The 447-unit project is scheduled for completion in spring 2016.

A related question: Does anyone know if there are plans for the lot between 333 fremont and the coppersmiths building on the corner? it looks like it is currently being used as staging for 399.
After posting that question I realized that the old rendering is still on the front page of the rundown thread. That rendering is so old it still has the clocktower in the background.
The addition of 399 Fremont, and shortly, 340 Fremont, will make this area very "tall". What I like about resi high rises is that the floor count plays tricks on the eye. 40 resi floors looks as high as 40 office floors even though there could be a 200 ft high differential. Obviously this holds true only for cities as dense as SF, NYC, Chicago, Miami, and Seattle where your eyes are drawn up, not across from a panorama. These buildings are only 400-600 ft, but they appear tall.

Well, I'd call a 400'-600' building "tall" anyways. I see what you mean though, and there's also the fact that the rincon hill towers are at an elevation of 100' or so feet, making them appear even taller.
I wish the pic included more of Rincon Hill and the Lumina towers (399 fremont just barely makes it into the frame), but it's the most recent one I could find showing roughly the same view you described.
