This happens way too often. Luckily, when one site is down the other is usually up.

I predict that one day both these sites will go down at the same time and god help us all if that ever happens

Found this thing in Wikipedia...

Uptime - Downtime (for a year)

* 100% - 0 hours 0 minutes
* 99.9% - 8 hours 46 minutes
* 99.5% - 43 hours 50 minutes
* 99.0% - 87 hours 39 minutes
* 98.0% - 175 hours 19 minutes

So what do you think SSC's uptime is?

Progress: So SSC isn't under maintenance anymore? Just a while ago, I tried to access SSC and I was able to but it took me 15 minutes to load the whole main page...

Here's another:

Not only is SSC down, but my computer broke.

Convenient that they should happen at the same time though.

Okay, my friend (GlamChiqAA of SSC) sent an email to both Jan and gothicform asking the status of SSC and here are their replies:

Quote:
No worries mate, we're upgrading the database server at the moment. Bit of a ball breaker given the size of our database, the fact that it is weekend plus the 9 hour time zone difference for me and my host, but we'll get there some time. Should all be for the good.

Cheers,

- Jan

just a server upgrade taking longer than we thought

And, as a follow-up question, she asked if there's a definite date of which SSC will be back and here's the reply:

I wish I knew. Problems never come with a fixed date. Shouldn't be too long though, remember I like this site too!

Cheers,
- Jan

Thanks to GlamChiqAA (Rina) for updating us

As long as I don't pay to use SSC I don't mind it being down for periods.

Maybe they should introduce payment. I wouldn't mind paying let's say 5 Pounds/month e.g. to be able to make posts.

Don't think so. If they need a new server. They should say, how much it cost and every 'real' user should pay 5 Euros or so. That's enough money I think.

Hope it's back soon.

^ But how about the students/non-earners who are major contributors too?

Rubbish Idea. You would lose at least 40% of all contributors. It would be a massive, MASSIVE mistake.

Same here. We're having withdrawal symptoms As someone stated in the other thread, SSC is like an addictive drug... But based on the replies of Jan and gothicform to my friend above, I think this will take longer so I have oriented myself to do other things
