Some exciting news regarding SEPTA and selling the air rights in Logan Square. It will be interesting to see if the Rail Park folks jump at this.

The submerged rail park is probably the worst use of land possible. I don't see people feeling safe and using it. Best case would be transit (though I've heard the RoW was infringed on by the new building on Hamilton?). If someone can build and keep the RoW clear, that'd be great

Rail park needs to give it up and focus on the elevated section imo

Oh yeah 100%, the rail park needs to finish more than the 1/4 mile that they have. If I recall correctly, it's the remnants of Reading Railroad that are making life difficult? The underground portion should obviously be a train/bus line that terminates at Broad Street. I think you're right that the Police station or Hamilton filled the tunnel for a block? Regardless it's still useful to have transit from Broad to 31st and Girard where the tunnel goes to. Brewerytown, Fairmount, Art Museum, Barnes, Free Library, Community College etc. would all be so much easier to access. It could really help the area around CCP grow as well.

I don't believe any new buildings actually block the right of way. The police station is in the way but I think was initially designed for trains to travel through.

Does that mean the Irish Famine memorial has been moved/removed?

If we lose the opportunity to include this cut and the Pennsylvania Avenue tunnel into some kind of transit, light-rail line would be a crime.

I didnt notice the scale of this initially (then I saw the ppl in the rendering), those are big windows. Will look great.

It has been temporarily relocated to Foglietta Plaza at the
corner of Dock & Spruce. It will be moved back to the cap when completed.

I saw a lot of activity in the Love Park Saucer during marathon weekend. I was wondering if something was finally happening there and was getting excited. Then I read today that it's basically just a holiday pop up space, at least for now.

I dont have a photo of it, but 5 stories of apartments are under construction in Upper Dublin. 2 smaller cranes and it looks like they are going one building at a time. Just barely peaks above the trees, not bad looking

This should probably go in the Metro Development thread.

Updated Test Scores and 2023 Rankings are out for PA public schools.

https://www.inquirer.com/education/p...-20231130.html

I use SchoolDigger to look at more comprehensively, but some positive developments for Philadelphia Schools.

Among High Schools, here is the ranking of some notable Philadelphia schools. I follow it with rankings of some well known suburban counterparts because you know, the assumption is always the schools are better in the suburbs.

So here we go. Format: School (% Students Proficient or Better in Test Scores, State Ranking, Change from Last Year). Edit to note: There are 674 public and charter high schools in PA, which are covered in this list.

Masterman (98.7, Rank 2, Change from Last Year +1)
Central (97.1, Rank 5, Change from Last Year -1)
SLA (93.1, Rank 22, Change from Last Year +90)
GAMP (89.6, Rank 41, Change from Last Year +131)
Academy at Palumbo (89.2, Rank 44, Change from Last Year +48)
Franklintown Charter (81.2, Rank 106, Change from Last Year +196)
Mast Community Charter (80.0, Rank 111, Change from Last Year -28)
Carver High School (78.5, Rank 123, Change from Last Year -15)
SLA at Beeber (72.5, Rank 187, Change from Last Year +162)
Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush (70.7, Rank 198, Change from LY -164)
CAPA (69.8, Rank 223, Change from Last Year +15)

The list keeps on going but should call out Girls and Bodine continue their falls from grace. I forget where they are on the list, they're not anywhere near the bottom but a decade ago they were routinely at the top of this one.

There are the suburban high schools in the top 50. Point being, if your child goes to one of the top 5 schools on the above list, they are in the same leage as these schools:

1 Downingtown STEM
4 New Hope Solebury
6 Lower Merion
12 Unionville
13 Harriton
18 CB East
20 Radnor
21 Council Rock North
23 Plymouth Whitemarsh
30 Strath Haven
33 Conestoga
35 Penncrest
47 Lower Moreland

Other suburban high schools.
55 Springfield (Delco)
58 Wissahickon
61 CR South
65 Haverford
73 Upper Dublin
94 Garnet Valley
97 West Chester East
112 Pennsbury
113 Bayard Rustin
172 Marple Newtown
217 Phoenixville
222 Upper Merion
244 Kennett High School

I am "in the know" on this and I can say that there is no definitive plan for what will happen in that space after Christmas Village ends. The two things I've heard are the return of Love Park Visitor Center in that spot, or it being converted into a restaurant.

A causal cafe/coffee spot with a Philadelphia tourist gift shop is a no brainer. It's not a great location for a restaurant, Love Park is weird at night when the Christmas Village isn't there.

CCD should have moved their hq there. Not sure if the space would work but it’d be the perfect spot.

It wouldn't be weird if it had people spilling out onto it until midnight or 2AM every night. That's the whole point of eyes and ears on the street. Weird people move along when others are looking at them.
