I know from time to time I hear comments about why the City of Moncton would build thé Avenir Centre , when we have a great facility in the Coliseum . Well last night was a great reminder of one of the many reasons we did it . While over 6,100 fans were attending the Wildcats game ; organizers were putting the final touches on the Farm Mechanization Show at the Coliseum . For the Wildcats , they were able to attract 1,000’s of visitors to Moncton for a midweek game during March break , while the Farm Show will attract 1,000’s of visitors to our City over the next few days . In both cases , it’s a win-win for our City

No more double booking of hockey games and trade shows in the Coliseum, especially at playoff time!! Now we have two facilities, each with individual strengths.

I've never seen the actual numbers, but I have heard time and time again that the Coliseum can turn a profit based solely on trade shows and exhibitions. If that is truly the case, then it makes perfect sense to keep the Coliseum active for these events.

After attending the Farm Mechanization show on Saturday at the coliseum, I can say it’s alive and well for trade shows. Consession wise, they only had a snack counter open in the old Tim Hortons spot but still full service in the agrena. Talking about parking lot reductions 85% or more of the parking lot was full including the line that’s supposed to be up the centre from the lights. The lines are so faded. People just treated it as spots.

As an aside, I've attended some functions like weddings, meetings, banquets etc... at the Legends restaurant. This place is greatly underrated by many. The food is always outstanding, as is the service. And they decorate it very well. You'd never know you're in an exhibition place's eatery. I'm there for event two or three times per year and it never lets you down. Truly a (sort of) unknown asset this facility offers.

Went to the Boat Show this afternoon at the Coliseum and decided to go sit in one of the bowl seats on my way out.

OMG, y'all don't know how good we have it at the Avenir Centre.

I think I may have displaced a disc out of aligned, pulled a back muscle and bruised a knee while testing the Coliseum seat.

Does anybody know if there are plans yet for the piece of land just to the west of the Avenir center? Are they going to tear down that older red brick building? I have heard that the terminal plaza building next to it will be undergoing a major renovation similar to the old CN building.

It's all a mystery at present. I suspect however that at some point, 1222 Main will get the same treatment that 1234 Main recieved.

Didn’t this building used to be NBTel or something? I believe Crombie owns it though, same as the area of Highfield where Sobeys was.

I believe you're correct.

I want to believe that Crombie has something special in mind for this area, incorporating a refurbishment of 1222 Main next door, but I have no evidence of this - only a hunch...........

I walk in this area often. When they were gutting the 1222 Main St building, I stopped and talked to one of the workers there. He told me that that building had a lot of high-tech equipment in it. He thought they were going to relocate it to the main floor of 1234 Main and tear down the older building. He did tell me that he heard that it wouldn't happen for a while because it was costly and a big job. I have no idea how accurate this is.
