Frankly, I'm ecstatic. While the building design is far from amazing:

1) Something is finally being built.
2) Another parking lot goes away.

I think it fits in perfectly in that location with Tech and Turner Broadcasting being right across the connector. It will be great if there is some sort of street retail there as well.

As for the design...I think it looks good and it will definitely change the view of midtown when driving by on the connector. Midtown should appear to be a little denser.

It looks like it's made up of parts left over from other buildings.

I think the reason it looks so bad is because they had to stick that parking garage in the middle. I would rather have it look like that than have a street level parking garage, though. But they could have at least made the parking garage blend with the rest of the building, a la Terminus.

Now if we can just do something about the 10th and Spring Street intersection. Domino's, a concrete wall, Checker's, and a parking lot all in one intersection? That has to be one of the worst in Midtown.

Only the Hilton Garden Inn portion looks bad. I chalk this up as a win for Atlanta. Thank God something is finally being built. And yes, it could be a Toyoko Inn so let's count our blessings.

I do think the building is hideous, but the location makes up for it. It's directly adjacent to the highway. A residential building would never be built there, and it's highly unlikely that an office tower or a high-end hotel would be built there. So, we're left with either a parking lot, a low-rise building, or a mid-range hotel. We got the best available option, it just happens to come with a horrendous parking podium.
Now lets cross our fingers that the "bar and grill" in the renderings actually indicates there will be some street level retail, and also that this signals the emergence of Atlanta from the skyscraper building hiatus of the past few years.

There is a replica of this building in Jacksonville that was completed in 2009. It's pretty ugly, but I believe it has been an otherwise success. This building's facade looks much better (some variety).

It could be MUCH worse...I am happy for the added density and the activity this will create along 10th Street. Glass half full.

It actually doesn't look too bad. I agree with a few of the posts that it could definitely be worse. I hope Atlanta's ends up as good or better than this one.

This is a hateful combination of a Miami condo circa 2005 and a housing project in Chicago... what a mess. On such a potentially prominent corner you'd think something else better could have been slapped together by underachieving builders/architects.

I wish they would just bring a couple of elements from the hotels all the way down to the ground floors even it if was cosmetic over the parking levels. It breaks up that awful stacked look, and keeps it from being so chopped up, even helps define the different hotels.

Here's a quick photoshop.

It looks like it will be better. I hate the plain brown facade of the one in Jax. Not to mention a pissed off Colts fan opened one of the water mains inside one of the hallways and flooded half the hotel. The insurance had to pay out millions in damages and the hotel had to close for months. Hopefully that won't happen in Atlanta's either.

Slowly the more buildings like this we get, the more walkable Atlanta will become.
