You should absolutely sign up for a Crain's subscription, very much worth it. The answer to your question is mostly due to crazy investment returns during the fiscal year. Gotta take what we can get, if it went in the opposite direction we surely would have heard about it.

Lori Lightfoot Says Chicago Retailers Aren't Doing Enough to Defend Against Theft
https://a.msn.com/01/en-us/AARCl3e?ocid=winp-se

Are we honestly supposed to believe this? Okay. Retailers are going to defend against theft by closing their stores for good.
I'm rapidly losing interest in coming into the city. Not much left to come in for.

Caveat two is that, just like almost any other investor with half a brain, the state funds enjoyed “exceptional” returns on invested capital in fiscal 2021, earning 22.9% to 25.2%. That’s way, way above their assumed rate or return of 6.5% to 7%.
obv still a "good" thing, but yeah. youd really have to try to lose money in the current environment. i wouldnt consider that a sustainable solution.

She's done, no way she wins a second term...which is probably a good thing.

Seeing as how LOW the bar has been set, you can say that Pritzker is the best Governor we've had in a while

Right, and scantily clad women are just asking to be raped. Pathetic victim blaming.

I just hope there's a palatable alternative come next election.

Lightfoot needs to take immediate action to force CPD into actually doing their fucking jobs. Our police force is a joke, our judicial system even worse. Complete and total failure of duty.

Bobby Rush is retiring... this should be an interesting primary. Does Jahmal Cole have the upper hand now?

There's no way that Lightfoot will be re-elected, right?

It really depends who her challengers are. If its a dozen Willy Wilsons, she will be getting my vote.

I'll give her until fall to gauge her chances.

But if Duncan runs, forget about it.

After Chicago Teachers School Shutdown, Does Lightfoot Have the Guts to go Nuclear with Real School Choice and Save the City?

https://johnkassnews.com/after-ctu-c...save-her-city/

If Lightfoot can’t get kids back in classrooms then she is done. And if Pritzker won’t fill her leadership vacuum, then I see no reason to support him either.

Quote:
As Vallas explained in his column, the city already has the money. Gov. J.B. Pritzker won’t help her. Born on third base thinking he hit a triple, Pritzker is afraid of his own shadow, and like all other Illinois Democrats he curries CTU favor. And CTU makes it clear they plan on taking Lightfoot out. President Joe Biden won’t help her either. National Democrats may use Lightfoot as a prop, but they all suck up to Randi Weingarten.
Savage, but not wrong.

Savage, but not wrong.
Except it is wrong because the entire premise of Vallas' column was incorrect. Specifically, there is no "state directive" that schools must stay open. This is a Lightfoot issue.

John Kass is not a reliable narrator, he wants to use this as a tool to privatize education. Meanwhile, Chicago has been a pioneer of school choice for years, where has that gotten us? An honest reporter would acknowledge that, but just like his takes on state finances and de-population in the city, when he is proven wrong he just pivots to another topic.

I can't believe that anyone would surrender a single moment of their life to give consideration to the idiotic ramblings of John Kass(hole).

Thats because you don’t understand the world from other views than your own. That’s not John Kass’ fault.

He has definitely got a chip on his shoulder and is a bit much for me, but there is a ring of truth to much that he bitches about. You just choose to ignore it and prefer the route of “I can’t fix dysfunction so I’m just going to be content and live with it”, but not everyone has to be that way.

No, I ignore John Kass because he's a liar.

People who can't even hold themselves to the truth will never be worthy of my attention, and they won't get it.

Btw, I moved your covid political diatribe to the covid thread in the CE toilet

A lot of political commentators are full of shit. John Kass is not the only one. But each and every one of them (from both sides) do carry a nugget of truth in what they are saying. Period.

I don’t go to CE any more, so the post that you moved will be my first entry there in well over a year
