Caveat two is that, just like almost any other investor with half a brain, the state funds enjoyed “exceptional” returns on invested capital in fiscal 2021, earning 22.9% to 25.2%. That’s way, way above their assumed rate or return of 6.5% to 7%.

obv still a "good" thing, but yeah. youd really have to try to lose money in the current environment. i wouldnt consider that a sustainable solution.

If Lightfoot can’t get kids back in classrooms then she is done. And if Pritzker won’t fill her leadership vacuum, then I see no reason to support him either.

As Vallas explained in his column, the city already has the money. Gov. J.B. Pritzker won’t help her. Born on third base thinking he hit a triple, Pritzker is afraid of his own shadow, and like all other Illinois Democrats he curries CTU favor. And CTU makes it clear they plan on taking Lightfoot out. President Joe Biden won’t help her either. National Democrats may use Lightfoot as a prop, but they all suck up to Randi Weingarten.

Except it is wrong because the entire premise of Vallas' column was incorrect. Specifically, there is no "state directive" that schools must stay open. This is a Lightfoot issue.

John Kass is not a reliable narrator, he wants to use this as a tool to privatize education. Meanwhile, Chicago has been a pioneer of school choice for years, where has that gotten us? An honest reporter would acknowledge that, but just like his takes on state finances and de-population in the city, when he is proven wrong he just pivots to another topic.

Thats because you don’t understand the world from other views than your own. That’s not John Kass’ fault.

A lot of political commentators are full of shit. John Kass is not the only one. But each and every one of them (from both sides) do carry a nugget of truth in what they are saying. Period.
