Was at RBC (Central City branch - King George and 102 Ave) today talking to a mortgage specialist and he volunteered that a 45-story tower has been decided upon for that lot and employees have been told that the bank will be moving into a new location while it is being built (he waved in the general direction of The Hub). He was told that construction would start when Georgetown is wrapping up so that's quite a ways down the line. Obviously this is a very unofficial source but interesting to note none the less.
'Mixed Use' is a funny term though, because retail at grade and all residential above is still mixed use.
What would look nice there is a 12 floor office podium if it's actually going to be a 45 floor tower. Since it's on a prominent corner. Personally, I would save that spot for a dedicated office tower.
Homeless shelter beside the TD bank on 104th ave is being dismantled. All the stairs have been removed. I wonder if that will change the demographic of the central Surrey area? Time will tell. I have a feeling things will start to slow down as the real impact of a globally indebted society takes hold.
Yah that building has been under construction forever. The last few months though it has seriously picked up to the point I think they've done 90% of the work the last 3 or 4 months. But for months it just really sat. It was completely topped out before the new buildings on the corner of 140 and Fraser Highway started digging. And today, that building is just finishing up landscaping and near ready for occupancy and this one you just showed is still not quite there.
I do think it is the slowest construction in Surrey ever. Makes me wonder. Would seem to indicate the development company ran out of money at some point and I wonder if the remaining construction is sound and corners haven't been cut.
