Why can't they just sink the store deeply under and make it a Loblaws store or as stated a Superstore? If Costco can open a store downtown I think A Superstore in Brentwood would be totally possible.

Fresh St Market seems like the kind of thing that could open up there, but I'm not sure if HY Louie is into having both London Drugs and their newer upscale grocery brand on the same site.

GilmoreStation, I think you're letting your investment into Brentwood color your perceptions of the mall. While it will have some higher end stores, it will not be exclusively that way. The idea that it wouldn't have a Daiso, a Dollarama, or any other dollar store, really, is silly.

Save-on foods is a block away, whole foods is across the street. Safeway is not close but up on hastings. So it leaves a Loblaws branded grocery store or a safeway/sobeys or a HY Louie brand which is IGA?

It'd be cool, but I don't think really appropriate for the neighborhood around Brentwood. Plus we're in Canada, so we don't get cool new stuff like this for about a decade after the US.

With the rapid development around Brentwood and also the skytrain extension to Arbutus, does anyone think TransLink should think about upgrade the trains for the millennium line? Those old two carts trains..

They already have thought about it...

Twenty-four additional cars will arrive by early next year and another 28 by the end of the same year, for a total of 56 cars for the Expo and Millennium Lines. These trains are similar to the 28 SkyTrain cars that arrived in 2016. For the Canada Line, 24 SkyTrain cars are being built by Hyundai Rotem, and will arrive by the end of 2020.

These additional 80 SkyTrain cars will increase capacity by about 10 per cent for Expo Line, 23 per cent for Millennium Line and 30 per cent for Canada Line. This results in a total of 8,200 additional spaces per peak hour on both directions on all three SkyTrain lines.

This is just the beginning! In Phase Two of the 10-Year Vision, we’re adding an additional 108 new SkyTrain cars to provide increased service on the Expo and Millennium Lines, as well as 50 new SkyTrain cars to replace aging fleet.

It's never a good sign when your transportation/transit fleet is older than the age of the vast majority of the riders now using the system.

Vancouver is notoriously bad at planning for the future and it's own growth as a city.

The station is tiny, with 3 turn stiles, and its already the 5th busiest in the region.

Imagine the ridership growth over the next 5 years as some of the Brentwood towers complete.

So once its at 110% capacity and ridiculously busy, we inconvenience everyone with shut downs and construction?

You don't need to be a planning major to know that Brentwood will have population growth...

You don't need to be a planning major to know that Brentwood will have population growth...

And you're only accounting for Brentwood. Imagine how much more of a pig's breakfast it will be when you add in Lougheed (City's) projected expansion and increased growth as well as the Gilmore area

It's just Par for the course with population planning and lack of foresight in the GVA where Translink is concerned.

Don't bother thinking ahead or planning ahead, and just assume the population will remain the same until some 10-15 years down the road when you realize that the population didn't in fact stay the same and you're now forced to haphazardly try to expand to accommodate the increased ridership (and probably costing you more money than if you had just thought and planned ahead and accounted for that increasing population growth) causing all manner of disruptions and extra cost.

Canada Line and the "bright" idea to single-track and the smaller than full train-length stations in some places, where I guess, some genius imagined that the area wouldn't experience any population growth in the foreseeable future.

I was shocked when they only put three in in the first place. It's so frustrating missing a train because all three gates are flooded by passengers exiting.

However, an upgrade is part of the 10-year plan. The question is when it will start. I presume the upgrade will include new turnstiles. I've seen it suggested that it will also include an elevator on the south side of Lougheed. But as you say, they'd better hurry it up.

Still, it's nowhere near the 5th busiest on the system. On the Millennium Line perhaps, but that's not saying much (I would guess it might be fifth after Commercial, Lougheed, Coquitlam Centre, Production Way).
