Every month I see an article about south salt lake "revamping" 2100 south. I never see anything happen. South salt lake has so much potential.

I've noticed that but it seems that's for the street car and it's not actually on 2100 south. That's were I would like development to start.

No there is some stuff closer to 2100 stomping down as well.

I think the little building between boaters world and the mortuary is gone... And it looked like the mortuary was being prepped for demolition.. They are slowly talking stuff down between state and 300 west.

I think that will be part of the Market Station development, which is being undertaken by the SSL RDA. I believe the plan was to have the street car run through the middle of the development.

I personly think they should scrap the street car and just run trax up the old rail coridore that's on about 2250 south. The land is already there so it would be unintrusive, able to go faster, And could eventually be extended further to the east... Possibly up parleys way to park city one day.

The old rail corridor is the land that is being used for the street car line. Light rail would never be able to extend to Park City, they don't have the power to make it up the canyon. It would require a locomotive to travel up Parley's.

Street car is geered more towards travel within and between neighborhoods and in this case to connect people to the commuter transit (Trax). There is planning taking place to eventually extending the street car further east, but not all the way to PC.

While it seems nearly the same, it's not, Street Car cost much less than Trax to complete. You will notice in the Transit thread that the Sugarhouse Streetcar line costs approx $27.75 million per mile, while the Draper Trax extention is $54.2 million per mile. The infrastrucure required to support trax trains and trax speeds is much greater than street car needs.

Here is a pretty interesting article written this week by Wired Magazine (if you can make it through the first two paragraphs full of polygamy crap).

Interesting article, I actually don't mind the polygamist (multiple sex partners) aspects of our history, it's the mixing it with patriarchal religiosity and religion that disturbs me.

Well it's certainly impossible to get very close to. I took this a while ago but figured it wasn't worth posting because of how boring it is.

For those who are interested of the fairbournestation development in west valley they have a live cam looking Northwest towards where the new hotel is going up. Right now work on the hotel is on level two. We should see a tower crane real soon.

Probably the most sensational two paragraphs I had ever read. I mean, really.

The funny thing about it is it's all accurate. We have a pretty sensational history.

Do you have to ruin every thread? Seriously, why don't you just go hang out on city-data where you'd fit in.

Sorry John Martin, I was just trying to embrace our history, rather than be embarrassed or, even worse, in denile about it.

Dude. Sensationalism has everything to do with writing, not history. The entire article is preponderant with hyperbole. There's no reason why polygamy should have been mentioned at all in the article. It'll just further the perception that Utah's woefully backward in the modern day with its rampant polygamists.

Well, that article isn't even talking about history when it mentions polygamy. It's talking about the large polygamist community in Bluffdale less than a mile from the Data Center. My friend Gloria lives in Bluffdale and her next-door neighbors are polygamists. They have 4 houses built in a square.

The article talked briefly about the history of the polygamist Mormon pioneers to describe the residents of the neighborhood where the new data center is being built. I agree, the polygamy stuff was not necessary, and frankly, seemed out of place, but t's not polygamy that makes outsiders think we're backwards, it's our theocracy, liquer laws, etc. that put people off.

I agree that Utah has a lot of things going against it in terms of its image, perceived polygamy notwithstanding. Still though, many people—stupid, uninformed individuals—think Mormons practice polygamy. It's articles like these that aid in the perpetuation of such myths. This article never directly connects polygamy with the LDS Church, of course. Reading through the comments, however, I saw one comment along the lines of, "This article is slanted because the first two paragraphs bash on Mitt Romney's religion." The guy who made the comment was well-meaning I guess, but it goes to show that people think polygamy is still practiced in the church.

Brevity was never my strong suit. You get the idea though.
