What do you guys think will happen when Bright moves to Congress. By that I mean, Bright is the first Mayor to really care about the downtown area and has put his political career on the line to defend downtown. Most wanted the new ballpark to be built at A U M , he also realized that any city this size needed a working transit system and of course downtown gets the benefits of this. He pushed for an expanded civic / convention center and lower commerce street area. My question is will the next Mayor be Pro-downtown ? There is so much potential in downtown Montgomery.

I'm afraid thinking of the future, but if you think about it Bright started the movement & I seriously doubt any new Mayor is going to shoot down potential development now. The city's actual spending towards such projects could be done though.
What makes me angry is all of the wasted time. For 20 plus years we constantly fought for things that Bright actually brought to pass. Think how greater your downtown could be, think how much more foot traffic could you have if neglect had not been the rule for all of those years. Plus it is about time for Montgomery to have as a Mayor a man/woman of color. Who knows Emory my try to take back the Throne, Yes with that I am glad I live in Denver.

I just hope the trends continue; downtown Montgomery could be such a happenin' place.
Are there any plans for more permanent residence type buildings for downtown. I think that would go a long way as far as revitalization goes. I don't mean $1500 a month luxury lofts, either.
i am really considering running for mayor if Bright does win, and of course i am pro-downtown. if i dont get it i think charles jinright would keep the movement going. he has the master plan to go by so it would be hard to screw that up.
as for residential downtown
lofts are expensive to do therefore they are expensive to rent, BUT there are a few coming in the $650-1200 range at the montgomery fair building.
i am looking at possibilities of new construction stuff that would probably rent for less as well but i am in the midst of doing three buildings right now so it won't be in the next year.
the more we do downtown though the more people will look over the myth that it is unsafe.
Anyone remember hearing of any commerical establishments on/near the riverwalk? Restaurant/cafes perhaps or concessionaires? Seems the place is kind of a white elephant except during concerts - is it even open?

Yes, it is open, and has been for a couple of years now. I've seen concessions there during events, but other than that, traffic is too slow to warrant any at this time.
Hopefully things will pick up whenever construction finally gets finished.
