I wanted to point out that WG is clearly visible from 14 miles away in Santa Monica (if you have a view of DTLA)- in fact it already looks like it's about to eclipse the USBT from that perspective, and already looks taller than Aon. Should look significantly larger from the West.

Will post pictures when my zoom lens arrives on monday

Looking foward to that vantage from Santa Monica. It is cool to get the distant views of the city.

Even way out here it's starting to become visible, albeit from the top of Kellogg hill. Although once the crown and spire are erected I wouldn't be shocked if it became visible from the valley floor.

It would take something 2000+ to be seen from the valley

It depends. Some people consider Burbank and Glendale to be the valley even though they are in the far south east portion of it. In that case you can see a lot of the downtown towers from the Glendale Galleria and the top of the US bank building in Burbank. But in terms of the west valley, I don't even think a 2000 footer could be seen from way out there.

But on some elevated and higher elevation sections of the 5 freeway heading south in the valley, You can see the US bank tower easy and the tops of some buildings on bunker hill.

You can see DTLA from Diamond Bar. If on a hill on a clear day the day after a big rain.

It looks like the floors are mostly all core, and very little floor space.

Overall, this skyscraper is turning out very nice!
I like the glass especially, very sexy!

Its a shame the roof of this tower does not go all the way to 1,100 FT.

The core is the same size all the way up. The walls of the core are 4' thick lower down and 2' or 3' above. The floors you see in the video are all hotel rooms.

Interesting side note here. This will be the tallest hotel in America. Beating out the 2 year old 750' Marriott in Manhattan and its sister hotel the 727' Marriott in Detroit.

The 727' Renaissance Center hotel in Detroit has an architectural twin in Atlanta, the 723' Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, which was also Portman-designed and built one year earlier. I'm not sure what accounts for the 4' difference because my understanding is that they are essentially identical.

The only thing that might block the Wilshire Grand from that claim is the fact that the bottom 1/3 is office space/and retail...Unless both of these Marriott's are also mixed use.

Some hotels are mixed use and some are not. That does not seem to change the hotel stats when looking up at the height order of buildings yet.
