The sun is peeking through the fog just enough to be able to tell where in the sky it is lol

15C and sunny in Moncton at 8 AM, going up to 23C this afternoon. Delightful weather!

There was an item on the regional CBC news last evening about the traffic chaos at the St. John's (NL) airport because of the dense fog over there. Lots of delays and redirected flights. Sounds bad........

Yeah. I had to last-minute cancel our involvement in a couple of national/international events because my boss couldn't get out So many event scenarios and speeches and news releases and whatever else to be edited on their end.

I thought our tech was upgraded enough to permenantly prevent this but I guess not.

Not all airplanes are equipped to perform CAT3 landings, nor are all pilots trained to perform them. That's why not all flights have been cancelled. If the plane has the capability and the trained crew, then days like yesterday would be no problem.

EC is indicating we are slightly higher for rain this year. Funny I always thought June was our rainy month.

Looking good for the rest of the week, Sunny but windy today gust to 50kph.

Last time downtown Montreal felt St. John's highest temperature this month was more than 25 days ago... and you had to wake up at 5AM to experience it.

27C with a humidex of 34 and cloudy. Still comfortable temperature wise. Rain started this evening.

Low of 22C (humidex of 27) this morning. Won't be the official low though because of the rain this evening.

The warmspot was Kuujjuarapik, QC at 35.3C. First 35C temperature in Canada this year and it happens on the shores of Hudson Bay.

Warmest low was Kuujjuarapik, QC at 21.9C. Harrow's 19.9C is the new record low in the country but it could be short lived. Kuujjuarapik is actually a few hours away from recording the FIRST official tropical low of 2024 in Canada. It's 25C at 11PM.

A pic of one of our naval ships that was out doing maneuvers in the basin this morning.

Eighty years since D-Day. I was born 20 years after WWII but I remember it figuring into my life in terms of overhearing conversations of who did or did not return from the war. And then there was my uncle Alec who wasn't really my uncle but rather a man with no legs that my grandfather brought home from the war as the fellow had no other place to go or call home. In my maternal grandparents house he was the only one with his own room. That five bedroom farmhouse with one bathroom housed a minimum of 10 people but usually more. Typical boomers upbringing I suppose. At least for country-raised boomers. As for the weather... today is forecast to be a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 25 (17 where breezes come off the water) and a humidex of 27.

According to CBC supper hour news last evening we were 1.6 higher than average for May. Thankfully we seem to be beyond the below normal temps of the early spring. TWN has said to expect an above normal summer in terms of heat. Fingers are crossed that it stays below 30.

My first cousin landed on Juno Beach on D-Day. He was a combat engineer. He died a few years back, and it was only in his obituary that this was mentioned. He never mention it to anyone (outside of his immediate family) that he has been there on that historic day. Some things veterans find very difficult to talk about. I didn't even know that he fought in the war. I used to joke that I came from a long line of cowards because of the dearth of military service (that I knew about). Not any more.........

Currently 16C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 24C this afternoon.

We had a thunderstorm at midnight last night, bringing much needed rain. We are operating on a 50% deficit since May 1st. My newly planted hedge in the backyard appreciated it very much.

22C with a humidex of 25 and a mix between storms and sunshine. The day started with full clear skies before having the first round (most severe one) at around noon. Proper storm with lightning and thunder. Round 2 was around 5PM but that one was much lighter.

Low of 17C last night.

The warmspot was... you guessed it... Kuujjuarapik, QC at 33.9C. They now hold the top 2 warmest temperatures in the country.

Warmest low was Point Pelee, ON at 17.1C.

Interesting phenomena that prevented Kuujjuarapik from recording the first tropical low in the country.
Around midnight, the wind switched from the SE (so from the interior of the province) to W (from frigid Hudson Bay) and as a result temperature fell 7C in one hour.
Then at 4AM, the wind switched to the SE again, and temperature skyrocketed.

I believe we are about the same age, and Yes i grew up with neighbours that were in the war. My family ( Grand Parents work munitions factories in Ontario) My mother once talked about a wooded area by Lake Ontario near Oshawa that they knew not to go in. But would here the occasional explosions. We later learned that was the famous Camp X.

A few years ago my wife and I had the opportunity to walk on Juno Beach. I can't imagine the fear and have to run across those rocks.

I've seen it all...
At 1PM: Kuujjuarapik, QC is recording 34.2C.
That actually beats Lytton as the warmest temperature recorded in Canada this year.

2PM: Kuujjuarapik, QC at 34.6C

With the warmer weather hopefully now settled in. I and a group of coworkers are doing a "TEAM building" exercise tomorrow and heading down to ride the Highwood pass (Canada's Highest Paved Road).

From the last report I got on Monday. There is still about 4 inches of snow the last 4 kms. (The steepest Portion).

I am in downtown Ottawa for meetings this afternoon, and it is literally early evening dark outside. Think the middle of dusk, just before transitioning to full darkness. Street lights are all on.

22C and light rain. 31 humidex.

Severe thunderstorm warning.

Nice day so I didn’t subway it up to Sherbourne and Bloor. Walked and used streetcar and bus. Then walk through Cabbagetown and bus down to Distillery. Then bus to the lake before going back to the office.

Whether a nice day or miserable day, it’s preferable to walk around in the latter Neighbourhoods than the dystopian first one. Though I like how they added a fancy entrance sign to the neighbourhood.

And Love Park’s water is still green. Pic from a week ago and today. Is there supposed to be that much scum on the bottom? I actually walked by but didn’t go up the pool itself to see how noticeable it is at street level.
