We're going a little further afield with this branch of Bank of America. One year later than my previous posts, these Julius Shulman pictures date from 1953. They show the bank at 117 E Huntington Drive in Arcadia. The set is called
"Job 1562: Bank of America (Los Angeles, Calif.),1953". I found the following information about the store on the left at
arcadiapubliclibrary.blogspot.com:
"Charles Shugert was the proprietor of The House of Toys, an inviting store that once occupied 111-113 East Huntington Drive. This store was an institution during the late 1950s in Arcadia but closed its doors around 1961."
This time the roof sign had to compete with the one from the United States National Bank across the street.

I believe this is the old bank building, although it's been slightly modified. It was never as interesting as the previous examples.

I think the building that once housed Arcadia Jewelers is still standing too, but I struggled to find anything interesting about the current buildings on this block. It was only when I took the Googlemobile west of First Avenue that I found the old Arcadia Tribune building at 53 E Huntington Drive.

Even in 1975, possible only 40 years after it came into existence, no one could remember when it was built. I love the quote from the head of the building department. After he hazards a guess at the build date, he says
"It seems like it was always there." This article is from January 12, 1975 edition of the Arcadia Tribune.
