A perfect place to have a classic-looking cart. The glass rotunda is an awesome spot.

Sorry but I think it looked far better than that hideous giant nipple-atrium 80s horrific structure I've wanted to see removed for over a decade.

The original design may have looked a bit severe but it was simple and architecturally cohesive and unified.

The problem was Pacific Centre, as a mall, was built with no flair or excitement like the Toronto Eaton Centre. Pacific Centre remains an unimaginative glorified hallway with low ceilings, the original entry reflected that. Even the signage was a simple back-lit piece of plastic.

Pacific Centre preceded Toronto Eaton Centre and was, in effect, a test case for Fairview Corporation and Eaton's.

But wasn't the design and plans pretty much in line around the late 1960s/early 1970s (even with the different completion dates)

Eatons also owned Block 71 for a time before it changed hands between the city and province. Might have been interesting if they were adjoining if that might have created something more "majestic" above ground.

I've often wished they could enlarge the skylights on the upper level, and do something about that mustard yellow color. Couldn't it be something crisper and more neutral in color?

Our office has a coffee table book from Cadillac Fairview that basically indicates that Pacific Centre was a prototype for Eaton Centre.

Wish we'd been second not first, might have had something closer to Toronto Eaton Centre.

Interestingly, the book also noted that Cadillac Fairview wanted the Eaton Centre atrium to run through the Eaton;s store, but Eaton's said "no"
- then Eaton's tried to reverse that decision once they saw the atrium taking shape, but it was too late.

This will be retail space and a re-imagined public plaza on either side. Looks great in my totally unbiased opinion!

In this pics, the Pacific Centre blade sign has been reinstalled (so they must be done in that area?)
Looks like some of the H&M facade has been installed at the south end of the store
- but it looks like a curving sheet of solid material rather than the faceted glass in the rendering (unless that's just temporary)

I have difficulty seeing the mall access points in the rendering. For such a visible corner, that vexes me.
