Was at Bayshore yesterday. Saw a sign that said Continental on the old Sport Chek on the 1st floor. They're a liquidations and auction company based out of Montreal.

Arc’teryx Plans Major Expansion with 15 Stores Planned for 2023 [Interview]

By Mario Toneguzzi | December 19, 2022

Retailer Arc’teryx, specializing in outerwear and outdoor equipment, has major expansion plans in the works for the coming year.

Delaney Schweitzer, Chief Commercial Officer for the company, told Retail Insider that 2023 is a major year for retail, with 15 new store openings planned across North America, including Denver, Edmonton, Chicago, and Ottawa.

...

* UPDATE *
A job opportunity on the Arc'teryx website indicates a Spring 2023 opening, as well as "OTTAWA – RIDEAU BRAND STORE". So presumably it will be at the Rideau Centre.

Westboro would make more sense, but it would be interesting to have it in the Market near the new Patagonia.

Nice--I have an Arc'teryx parka. Excellent winter coat. I bought it after taking my time to compare it with Canada Goose options. The Arc won. I bought mine at Sporting Life at Lansdowne.

'Refreshed Identity:' Zellers gives sneak peek of its comeback

Denette Wilford, Ottawa Citizen
Published Jan 09, 2023 • 1 minute read

For Canadians intent on once again shopping at Zellers, your wish is Hudson’s Bay Co.’s command.

The department store is returning — a decade after most of its stores were shuttered — in the form of a new e-commerce website and an expansion of its brick-and-mortar legacy within select Hudson’s Bay stores across the country.

If you recall, Zellers resurfaced in August 2021 as a pop-up shop in the Burlington Centre and in Anjou, Que.

Canadian shoppers clearly missed the store “where the lowest price is the law” because a year later, the company announced its plan to relaunch Zellers in early 2023 as “a digital-first shopping journey that taps into the nostalgia of the brand.”

Zellers, meanwhile, has been sharing posts on social media.

Shoppers can expect “a refreshed identity” as well as “unique and exciting” products and “everyday value,” the company has said.

Zellers has been giving shoppers a sneak peek of what’s to come and the retailer’s stock will include housewares, furniture, small appliances, pet accessories and toys, toys, toys.

Shoppers can also expect apparel in the coming months, as well as a new “design-led, value-driven private brand,” according to the release.

Zellers was founded in 1931 and acquired by HBC in 1978, serving as the discount division of its flagship stores. In 2011, HBC sold the bulk of its Zellers leases to Target Corp., which closed most stores by 2013.

Speaking of floor plan, I just noticed a Hugo Boss shop on L4. Haven’t been to Rideau in a couple months and it wasn’t there at the time.

Tapping into the Zellers nostalgia with a digital-first shopping journey. I don't see that working. The nostalgia is associated with the Zellers brick-and-mortar stores. I don't see any reason for someone to shop Zellers online.

I just see this as another desperate attempt from HBC to try and become relevant again. Just another step towards its ultimate demise.

Did anyone mention that the International Cheese Shop in the Byward Market will be closing? Need to find an article.

I believe that it is actually the House of Cheese that will be closing:

I am not sure what the online stores would offer. There are a lot of places with oversized Bay stores where there are not many options to buy regular stuff. Might be a small niche.

Apparently one of those next-generation Zellers stores will be opening at Les Promenades Gatineau.

Zellers unveils its first 'store experience' locations and two are in Ottawa, a third is in Gatineau
A decade after most of its stores were shuttered, news broke earlier this month that Zellers would be back, both online and at brick-and-mortar stores

Megan Gillis, Ottawa Citizen
Published Jan 18, 2023 • 1 minute read

Nostalgic Canadian brand Zellers will count the Rideau Centre and St. Laurent Shopping Centre among its first 25 “store experience” locations set to open in Hudson’s Bay outlets this spring.

No firm opening date was given for the locations announced Wednesday, which also include Les Promenades Gatineau in Gatineau and Kingston’s Cataraqui Town Centre.

Hudson’s Bay says in a media release that customers will find “a thoughtful selection of design-led products across home decor, toys, baby, apparel and pets, housed within Zellers’ signature red and white” in the 8,000 to 10,000 square-foot locations.

Also, Wednesday is the launch of sign-up for updates at zellers.ca, the future home of the brand’s online sales.

A decade after most of its stores were shuttered, news broke earlier this month that Zellers would be back, both online and at brick-and-mortar stores. The brand resurfaced in 2021 as pop-up shops in Burlington, Ont. and Anjou, Que.

Canadian shoppers must have missed the store “where the lowest price is the law” because a year later, the company announced its plan to relaunch Zellers in early 2023 as “a digital-first shopping journey that taps into the nostalgia of the brand.”

My oh my, not nearly large enough to include the diner. I feel like they are going to seem alot more like a Dollarama than anything.

Going to the Zellers website it looks like it is going to be inside Hudsons Bay stores. https://www.zellers.ca/ top right corner.

Anyone know where it's going to be in the Bay at Rideau? It sounds imminent, but I haven't seen any preparations.

They seem to be renovating a large section of the store near the bridge to the Rideau Centre. Not sure it is related or not.

The store-in-a-store Forever 21 just closed. Not sure what they'll be doing with that space next.
