The owners are securing their property. They do not want it to become an encampment. Money very well spent.

Exactly. Also, $12k is basically nothing to an organization like PPP. Literally pennies.

And it's not the rental panel fencing either so it looks slightly better over the long term.

Is the 5' measuring just to the top of the chain-link? Because under the forum rules it should include the caps on the top of the posts in the corners if they are integral to the fence and not just decorative.

LMAO thank you for taking that as far as you did, borkborkbork.

I haven't seen Fence in person yet so I will have to do a drive by ASAP.

I like how they've built Fence right out to the lot line. It's just like New York.

I know you can knock together a warehouse type store pretty quickly, but 6-7 months to open a new location and convert the St. James Costco to a Business Centre doesn't seem likely...
Definitely nothing started on the Portage Ave Costco site. The roads don't "go to nowhere" though. The road on the west is the access for the Red River Ex site as the east side parking lot is owned by ASD. Not sure if Red River Ex sold it or never owned it. That said relations between Pegius who now own and operate ASD and Red River Ex is extremely frosty right now.

It terms of Costco, the plan that had circulated was the St James location would be converted to a business centre after the two new locations opened.

One of my "source in the know" keeps telling me the planned Portage Ave site isn't happening. I am not sure the exact issue but think it might come down to who would be picking up the costs to get the water/sewer lines into the site. My understanding is that even though it is west of the Perimeter it is still inside city limits. It also sounded like the servicing costs would be significantly more than just the normal from the property line.

I have also heard that eventually Costco St James will be for business needs only. The company I work for and a few people that have a business were told this from Costco managers. They will need North & West locations first to swing that.

A bunch more trees on Broadway (east) were removed recently. It's been absolutely decimated there are not very many mature trees left. Some have been replaced (2019) but with most of them dying out, and the Broadway streetscape looking worn, I'd really like to see a whole new plan for the street, it needs some love desperately. Would like to see the boulevards be taken advantage of in a better way.

Pre-pandemic thinking but would be nice to see the middle of the street perhaps become a dedicated food truck area in summer. Perhaps four trucks (two east, two west) at each cross street with tables/benches etc in the middle.

In winter perhaps an extension of the skating trail/warming huts?
