Ugh, reading this thread has made me realize how behind I am falling on the local development news. I haven't even really had a chance to go check out City Creek, and some of these projects are news to me. I didn't even realize the new Natural History Museum was open, that's really good news!
That Chinatown near me is coming along nicely though! I'll try to go take some pictures soon since I haven't seen anything in this thread recently, it's about a 10 minute walk from my house.

I work at the Century 16 theater in Salt Lake and from what I understand, they're just going to vacate the location, but I don't know if it's going to be when the lease is up or before the lease is up.
I don't see how it would affect the Drive-In, seeing as how its appeal is quite unique nowadays.

Which as has been explained is quite run-down. Nobody will want to go there once the new Megaplex opens up. Unfortunate but true. I fear that it may hurt business at the Century 16, too, although hopefully there's enough distance between them that both of them can remain open. I don't care so much about the job, but I also live down the street and this area would just feel a bit empty without it. But I imagine there's enough business to go around to keep both of them open.
Also, according to my management, Cinemark corporate was just in town to scout out a location for yet another movie theater. Between Valley Fair, the new theaters in Draper, Farmington, and Centerville, the expansion of the Thanksgiving Point and Jordan Commons theaters, a rumored new location at Cottonwood, and now apparently this as well, does anybody feel like they're creating a "movie theater bubble"?

I do find the locations of things like this interesting because movie theaters are a destination - that's one reason I would love to see more stores and destinations around the Century 16...aside from the theater it's really just a void of pawn shops, bars, car dealerships, and fast food places. I guess the Chinatown is a start. It's a pretty good location and is next to a freeway exit - a lot of people drive through here, but most people think of this area as just "dumpy"...which it mostly is. It's just that if you look at other movie theaters, they're often located in major shopping centers or near a major destination because they're huge draws. Everybody goes to the movies.
