In terms of Amazon, and other tech companies moving to liberal political areas like high tax California, New York, Boston, Chicago, and even in Washington, DC proper...there is an obvious reason:Techies, engineers, scientists, computer programmers, mathematicians, etc. tend to be liberal in their worldview and intellectually curious whereas republicans tend to view science with suspicion. Diversity is not a strength to conservatives despite all valid research stating diversity is paramount to company's success. Why would Amazon place its HQ without the pro-science mindset AMZN needs, the culture which attracts the best and brightest, and most important retaining top talent in a world brilliant people can pick and choose where they work?

I dislike Republicans thinking there are no valid reasons why most Americans no longer identify with them when the trust is staring them in the face.

The truth is, you and I or anyone else on this site has any idea where Amazon will land, but the conviction with which many here spew their pick is comical.

The May 2018 issue of the Housing News Report has ranked the top 20 finalists by affordable housing and quality of life. Below are the 5 cities that top the list:

People in Amazon know and the site has already been selected. Amazon is hiring thousands of people for its expanded AWS already located in Northern Virginia. Some think Amazon will bring another 50K employees to an area. I do not. Amazon will simply skim from an abundance of talent already in the area. Otherwise, it would have just placed its HQ in rural Alabama, and let employees come there. Apple will end up in NC due to tax incentives and the Research Triangle, but the overall talent level in NC can't host both.

Median household income in NVA is over $100K. Homes are median of $540K. That's a lower multiplier than Atlanta. Quality of life is displayed in life expectancy which places the DC region higher than the other locales. The metro system here is expansive unlike the ATL as well. Amazon placed 3 of its TOP 20 in the DC region. It will come down to ATL, Boston, and DC-MD-VA.

Where can they gain and retain intellectual capital? Places where Roy Moore and Roseanne Barr are popular are non-starters as a rule. Red states tout low taxes? I notice your account is brand new and you seem to be making a ton of definitive claims without backing them up.

Are you a high-level employee at Amazon that's involved in the decision-making process for HQ2? If not, can you please provide a link to these direct quotes from the high level Amazon employees involved in the HQ2 decisiom-making process to back up your claims?

Texas is the state which serially offered taxpayer money to corporations to relocate to Texas. Texas is blue in all the cities, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, but rural voters still outnumber blue voters. Because you are a Republican. I make well above $100K a year. No material change in my life occurs with AMZN in NVA. Amazon in NC would turn the state blue. That would really annoy you, I can imagine.
