Free or low cost stuff off the top of my head: Red Line, Moody Theater, Central Library, flagship Whole Foods, 2nd Street in almost it's entirety, most of the bike lanes, Butler Park improvements, the boardwalk, Waterloo Greenway. There are more for sure but to me the landscape is far improved compared to 10-15 years ago.

So do we think the 639 is the final height?

656 feet could be the mechanical roof height.

Oh yeah, there is a wee little box there - I thought the roof was flat but there does look like a mechanical box.

The approved elevations dated 12/10 show this project as 51-stories and 602'. The approved permit has it as 51 floors as well. Both this project and 321 West seem to have the approval date stamped on old elevations and uploaded those as the approved elevations. The floor counts and FAA filings for both projects match public statements by their developers. Therefore the floor counts in the thread titles for both projects come from public statements from the developers and the heights from FAA filings.

This makes me wonder what the status of the Rainey St. plan itself is... with this, and 80 Rainey, and River St. residences all potentially starting in 2022, all of their renderings seem to show sidewalks about twice as wide as they are currently....

I wonder if this will coincide with some removal of parking on Rainey itself, or any other infrastructure renovations, or if it's just the renovations being optimistic.

I believe it will come in on paper as 55 stories tall, with two story penthouses, for an actual of 56 stories.

I agree with you. It just bothers me that on the last two big projects to have their site plans approved and released, the released elevations were old versions of the project.

The change I've seen on this project is 6 additional levels to the parking garage. I wonder if updates like that are exempt or similar.

An anonymous source sent me the actual approved elevations. I came up with a height of ~658'. So it gained two feet from the last height we had for it.

Rainey skyline reaching new heights: One tower secures financing, another moves forward in plan review

Parimal M. Rohit – Staff Writer, Austin Business Journal

https://www.bizjournals.com/austin/n...s-forward.html

"Rainey Street is on track to become ground zero for the latest upward expansion of downtown Austin’s skyline, as a couple of high-rise developments reached significant milestones this week."

"The Austin Design Commission on Dec. 13 unanimously recommended plans to build a 49-story apartment tower at 80 Rainey St. Meanwhile, Austin-based Urbanspace Real Estate + Interiors announced Dec. 16 it secured both construction financing and a site development permit to move forward with its 56-story condominium tower, The Modern Austin Residences."

Looks like the renderings on their website have changed. The crown has simplified and it's lost the black stripes and other accents. Sadly, it's even more of a glass rectangle than before:
