I'm pretty sure the only plans we've seen are those of the broker. We have yet to see a Hanover design but my guess is that it will be much improved.

Oh good so that is not the final design then.

I think 427MM thought he was replying to a 5th & Lavaca post since he mentioned Hanover and renderings of that project have not been released.
The renderings for 300 Colorado are the actual plans.

Demo permits for Sullivan's were already approved, but another Demo permit was filed today for allowing use of a parking lane during demo. Demo begins August 1st.

I think we're underselling the value of the iron mullions and what they add to this overall design. It reminds me of the early SOM office buildings built in Chicago, except with blue rather than black glass. I think this one will actually be a nice addition to the skyline, especially if they light the top in a semi-interesting way.

I agree. I'm starting to like this one more and more.

Agreed. It looks like there is some great detailing I don't think we've seen anything like since they built Frost Bank tower. Especially at street level. Definitely beyond "basic" that we see all too much of in many of our new blue glass towers. If only this building could be twice as tall!

Yeah, I like the mullions. The close up renderings show more detail. If it really is black on blue, as indicated, it'll look good. And you're right about the mullions. There's definitely an industrial (heavy) feel there that I was hoping this would have.

Actually, it's not bad. Let's consider the alternatives. They could really be awful. Austin has reached a point where buildings between 400' and 500' may not me "architecturally" wowing or pleasing to the masses.

The city has reached a new level of architecture - which is good. It's no where near the major architectural hubs...but, inching closer. As the average height gets taller, we'll see the taller proposals have more daring designs. The ones in the middle (400'-500') will probably still be average because they will be hidden (or end up being hidden) by/within the taller mix.

Hey...this tower is still one of many being proposed or built that exceed my original home town's pride: Frost Bank Tower (at 29 stories and 386' tall).

I think I'm warming up a tad on this one. Still, for me, the best thing about this building is where it fills a gap that I didn't think would get filled anytime soon. But like I sometimes always say, if only it was a little taller...

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. These flat roofed towers are getting too repetitive. I like the balcony section, about the only thing interesting about it. I'll hold off judgment on the facade for now.

Imagine if the glass was black, and this had a few more setbacks, and it was 150% the height. We'd have a poor-man's Sears (Willis) tower on our hands.

Either way, I'll wait until it's done. I think this will be one of those projects where we won't know how it's going to turn out until we see the real thing.

Agreed. On the black tower thing, I know it's not quite the same, but that's why I've always liked the Bank of America Center. It's our best example of a black international style tower. It was designed by the same firm that did Pennzoil Place in Houston, which has long been thought of as architecturally significant. Even 823 Congress got painted blue. Figures.

Not only designed by the same firm, but used the same (leftover) materials! Or so I read on Towers.

Ugh, that new color makes me nauseous. Not sure what they were thinking.
