Nonsense. If people are going to hold a position regarding subject matter there's a reasonable expectation that those people have a basic understanding of the issue. If people are to debate foreign policy, one expects that person to be knowledgeable of the subject matter. If people are to debate casinos, one expects that person to be abreast of the information pertinent to that.

It's not my job to spend the next 3 months bringing someone up to speed just so we can have a proper discussion of the issue. The message is clear: do your homework first. Don't ask others to do it for you.

It's called providing sources to support YOUR argument.. perhaps you've written an essay or two to know that?

I believe this development proposal is dead. Thank you to our left wing city councillors for voting against the casino.

The proposal is not dead.

Oxford will redevelop the convention centre, what remains to be seen is how much of the original proposal they retain.

Correct. Oxford has stated that the proposal was not contingent on the casino. Toronto still needs a larger convention centre, more office space, and a hotel to replace to the one that will be taken down.

We can always try for a casino inside this building in another few years when the investment climate in Toronto is more favourable. There's obviously lots of demand so we'll just keep trying till we finally get one. That said, we'll hopefully still get the Foster proposal largely as is.

These sort of projects take time. Sometimes too much time but the market conditions favor it so its just a matter of patients.

This is a long term project. It wouldn't shock me if years went by before we heard any substantial movement on it.

1h8pickingusernames, some good news, looks like Oxford is getting into the Mega Mall Business and Oxford Place is going to be the beneficary. Waiting for some confirmation, but it's looking good, that what we have been discussing at this board regarding a Mall Replacing the Casino is likely to move forward.

Lol, where do you get this information from? When I google it's always the same outdated articles that show up. If what you're saying is true then that truly is awesome news.

Not all information is on google. Most insider development news is presented in public meetings by the developers and city officials. That is caltrane's source and I have to concur with him, I believe there was someone in one of those meetings who posted it on the UT forum.

I'd also add that this project is largely unaffected by the slowdown in condo demand due to it being a convention centre, retail, and office. The 2 smaller towers? Would they still be hotels? My top 3 anticipated projects:

1. Oxford Place (4 towers)
2. Mirvish-Ghery (3 towers)
3. One Yonge (7 towers)

Would be amazing to see one of the towers with an open air observation deck.

I'd be surprised if the towers had an observation deck at all, let alone an open air one. So close to the CN Tower there's little that they could offer that you couldn't get from there.
I'm happy to be proved wrong, just don't see it happening.
