I'll probably have to see it built to judge fully (yes, do build it). I liked the smoothed edges of the previous design a lot. And the facade was more interesting. This is good, too, though. It reminds me of some of Minneapolis' towers, and that is a VERY good thing. One of my favorite buildings anywhere is Minneapolis' Wells Fargo Center. That east/west view of it (the skinny end) will be interesting to see. And it's so good to know they'll light that crown.

This is awesome! Thanks for posting the pics. I really hope this project is a go. And if the the Waller Park Place takes off that part of downtown will be pretty amazing!

A large construction trailer was installed on the site along Cesar Chavez this morning. There was a lot of other activity onsite as well, but the traffic kept me from getting a good view of it.

Things will be great when you're downtown.

I noticed some of that too. Certainly caught my eye, but there were still a bunch of cars parked on site...

TheCruiser (poster from shaggy that alerted me to the Magellan project) posted last night about Fairmont...

Fairmont Hotel project should be good to go. Waiting on a few final details and two more partners to get set. What's going to happen along waller creek from Town lake to UT through the Incubation District is going to be nothing short of transformative for our sleepy little town.

I drove by the site today. It looks like they are having some sort of RV event. Not sure if that big RV out there is the mobile office for the project or not.

Either way I agree that this area is going to be massively different in 5 years. (about time too)

Love this meme. Esp the heavy rotation It got on shaggybevo with the whole Mack Brown/Charlie Strong thing.

This meme accurately depicts my level of excitement for the new UT coach and this project.

Ahhhh. I was hoping site prep would be happening when I got back in from Marfa! My crystal ball is telling me this is gonna break ground very soon. Can we all agree on this?

Does anyone know where the January projected start date came from? If I remember correctly, the last we heard from the developers was "early next year (2014)".

Can't remember the article but it mentioned a January groundbreaking. I'm patient because this is going to be one of the largest and most expensive projects built in DT. If I had to guess I bet groundbreaking will take place sometime after March.

In a recent article in the AAS Doug Manchester said that site work began last year and that it will continue as designs are completed, construction costs are nailed down and their final decisions with respect to financing are made.....

Translation.....there's a lot of work that still needs to be done before this thing breaks ground.
