So, the Safeway in Aspen Landing is probably the nicest Safeway anywhere.

They have a full service nut bar, that will make you any type of butter fresh right infront of you... peanut, almond, etc.

Among other things

Also, the Starbucks right across the street from the Safeway Starbucks, and down the street from the one by the Co-Op has opened.

Along with Pet Planet, some game store, snowboard store, and Marble Slab has signage up, along with a really big Good Earth Cafe.

Still no sign of Thai Tai, but I want it now!!

I was just at The Camera Store looking at the new Canon 7D. It took a few seconds, but I managed to talk myself into buying one. My very helpful and attentive sales rep, sent a clerk downstairs to get one for me.

The clerk returned empty handed and told the rep that they had 20 in the basement, but he's not allowed to sell me one, as they need them for their release party on Wednesday. The sales rep then went to the manager, telling him I had cash in hand. No go.

Sales manager said that I should come to the release party on Wednesday if I wanted one. I politely told the manager that I'll take my business and all future business elsewhere.

The Camera Store is usually more expensive than Best Buy and Futureshop by quite a bit. Yes, you get a salesperson who knows the difference between a camera and their butt, but if you know what you want you're better off shopping somewhere else if they have it. Of course, some lenses you can *only* get at The Camera Store. We're pretty limited in Calgary as far as good photography shops go.

I didn''t check Best Buy, but I did check Future Shop and they were $20 more than The Camera Store. Normally, I like to shop at Robinson's on 9th, but they weren't getting any D7s until next week.

Hmm, I didn't know the 7D was going to be that expensive. Though, for $20 I would smite The Camera Store...

Though, it is unlikely they will feel smited when others lineup to buy it.

The best thing about the big box stores is their price matching policies. They work their way around it often, but with something like the Canon 7D there really is no way for them to deny a request.

I think the reason you were turned down with cash in hand was because they knew that they'd sell them all no matter what. Yeah, they just lost a return customer, but I guess they don't mind.

I agree with you - was comparing Camera Store to big box stores when I bought my camera in August, Camera Store was cheaper. I just went over to Robinson's and made them match price.

I think the Westhills Safeway is actually nicer. It is a little larger and it has a very large hot food bar. It also has a nut bar. Not a big fan of that concept, though. Only one time have I tried purchasing those overpriced nuts at the nut bar and they were rancid. Style does not win over substance; I'll buy my cashews in vaccuum packed cans, thanks.

Hmm, I stopped shopping at that Safeway once the Glamorgan Safeway opened, I like new things. And I agree about the $12 little containers of peanut butter, but I thought it was cool.

It was *really* busy today. I'm almost thinking Aspen Landing won't have enough parking, it was pretty fully and only two main stores are open.

I agree about the parking. For kicks, I googled their DP report, and it looks like the City didn't require any parking study for the development. On an unrelated notice, I noticed that their DP states that there will be a future park and ride lot west of 85th. Huh? I don't think there's any vacant land left there?

WestHills is Canada Safeway's best store in terms of sales. The turns on the nuts are quite high, so they shouldn't have been rancid and they come from an excellent supplier in Texas. If at any time there's an issue, always take it back and they will replace it and give you your money back.

Westhills Superstore does for sure. I haven't seen corn nuts in the bulk section at Cochrane or Crowfoot Safeway for a while so I doubt they'll have them at Westhills.

I figured by the way you said 'up' you were referring to one of the north ones (which are up both in terms of elevation and position on a map

)... I don't consider westhills to be 'up' from anywhere

I'd rather pay a little extra, for some service and support stores that are locally owned.

Is the retailer actually allowed to sell this camera yet? Perhaps the manufacturer won't allow them to sell any until the actual release date?

They're allowed to sell them. Saneal and Vistek have them in stock and are selling them. Vistek's price is actually $10 lower than The Camera Store.

according to Deerfootmeadows website, coming soon, Gap Generation, Banana Republic Factory store, and NOOD (a furniture store i believe).
