Im tired of the constant attacks against fortress especially from ppl who have no stakes or money riding on the project.. i can understand if ppl who bought condos came on and vented.. but ppl on here just want to hate on this project because they assume its not gong to proceed.

Close this thread until we either see some progress or the project gets cancelled all together

Because all this hate or speculation is pointless.. the st regis is boarded up thats where we stand

I agree. I come here to read about what is new in infrastructure projects and this thread is annoying since it's so hard to separate truth from speculation.

In my opinion, however, it wouldn't be the end of the world if this never got built. It's an ugly building and a historical city like Winnipeg deserves better as their tallest.

I like the podium, but the tower is banal.

I would not describe the tower as ugly... perhaps not a showstopper, but at least it's interesting and not really in any way offensive.

The Radisson is ugly, for example.

Thought I would share some type of positive news in regards to Fortress in Ontario, which may lead to us having positive outcomes!

they ignore anything positive related to fortress

these people here also think that newswire.ca is associated with fortress somehow..

trust me this forum especially this thread is filled with trolls and needs to be closed...

they also ignore the fact that edenshaw is also a developer on the project.. they completely ignore that one..

That's not "news" from a journalist. It's a press release from Fortress themselves (and their financing arm.) OF COURSE it's positive.

Be honest; we're also referring to their antics with their OTHER companies. They weren't ordered to pay $3 million to "investor victims" by the Ontario Securities Commission in 2011 for no reason. They weren't banned from trading in securities for the next 15 years for no reasons. They weren't banned from selling mutual funds in 2005 for no reason. And Fortress itself isn't facing four class action lawsuits over it's other projects for no good reason.

They're not suing people to silence them about it for no reason.

No-one here is accusing Elisdon, Edenshaw and the others of anything. If SkyCity goes the way of, well, other projects by the same people, it's not the contractors' fault.

Newswire is just a feed of news releases by companies. It's not actually news - it's where journalists go to look for stories. You can't take anything on there at face value.

Well done, sir. Why the city would give Fortress a $6.5 million grant is beyond me.

It has been said to death - no finished building, no grant.

= no loss for city.

Like Fortress or not, if they end up finishing a 575 ft tower with 380+ residences then $6.5 million well spent in my opinion.

I think the parkade goes ahead for sure. Can't be more than a $20 million dollar loan to build something like that? Fortress must have secured a larger loan to build out their Barrie project and Edenshaw secured bigger loans for their two major Toronto apartment projects.

Given demand for parking downtown, I'm sure there will be a few interested parties willing to buy the spaces from Fortress and give a construction lender comfort to move forward.

If it helps, I'll promise to park there when I go to the Pint.

Is there that big of a demand for parking downtown? I never have a problem. Both during the day or at night for events.

We could use more covered parking. I bet the cops will be interested in buying some spaces.
