Overwaitea's Asian catered Price Smart or Loblaw's T&T, who will go to Brentwood to claim "first?"

Doesn't seem to bother Jimmy Pat to reach market saturation with his grocery store brands, whereas Loblaw's (being run out east) might be a bit more cautious & ignorant to local needs (except T&T's separate management)

Safeway pre Sobeys were "in tune" with local needs, but don't see them opening new stores (except when replacing old existing ones), not to mention Hastings Safeway several blocks north.

T&T or Osaka brand like in Park Royal would definitely make sense.

That's a totally different market than Brentwood.
That's Kingsway in East Vancouver.
That location won't draw customers from Burnaby.

Also, it's hardly a 12-minute ride, but anything to sell more condos to clueless buyers.

...and isn't the T&T in Metrotown closer, anyway?

Why would anyone drive all the way to Kensington Gardens for their T&T fix when you could just head down Willingdon and get your shopping there?
Unless they hate the mall (metropolis) so much.

Closer still is T&T at Renfrew and 1st. Though the 130 bus to Metrotown is fairly fast and frequent, and there you can go to Crystal Market instead (my mother-in-law does this). As for Kensington Gardens, I've been here over a decade and I'd never heard of it. That's way out of range.

I have no special knowledge, but my bet is that they're racing to finish other things. They're supposed to be ready for commercial tenants to occupy quarter 3 2018 - five and a half weeks from now. Back at the open house for phase 2 they told me they were behind. When the sidewalk was blocked, a worker told me the "closed until October" sign was optimistic. I don't see how they can make it, but I think they're trying (I don't think they used to work Saturdays.)

I expect every day late will cost them. I suspect the goal with the first two towers is not to finish them, but to make them safe for passers-by below so that they can get those tenants in, so that businesses can open as close to the target Q2 2019 opening date as possible.

We had our purchase agreement amended for a six month extension on the completion date. Not an issue for us since we sold our house last year and currently renting. They are targeting next spring or summer for completion. While it’s nice to see Tower one topped out, I have to question why other developements are proceeding at a faster pace.

It's a massive site with hundreds of units to complete. Just imagine how many fridges and hundreds of square meters of washroom tile go into such building. I wonder how many workers are on site on a normal day?

Imagine how much housing is simultaneously going up in Brentwood.

Its like all of North Barnaby is being rebuilt in the town centre alone, over the next 24 months-ish.

Pretty crazy to tally them all;
- Mall Site 3 towers
- Solo 3 towers
- Concord 3 towers
- Bordeau
- Juneau
- Milano
- Escala
- Triomphe
- Gilmore 1 and 2
- James
- 2 new Holdom towers
- What else am I missing?

Its truly crazy to think about the amount of units.

I always wonder how and where developers are finding staff to build all of these towers. I know there's a severe labour shortage as it is and that's a huge hurdle that everyone has to face.

I speculate and could very well be wrong that the army of people needed to get all this done are migrant workers, some of whom were laid off from the oil fields when barrel prices plummeted.

A lot of temp international workers it would seem. When I was taking some part time courses at BCIT last year a lot of the Brazilians and Mexicans were working construction jobs during the day. Not sure how legitimate it was...

I work trades. Most of the painters, drywallers, carpet, and flooring guys seem to be international workers. They seem to be privately contracted. Electricians, Plumbers, HVAC, Data, etc. seem to be locals for the most part and a lot of them are BCIT graduates. Most of my electrician friends are swamped with work and are sometimes doing 12 hour days to finish deadlines.

Out of curiosity, how do the Unions and Locals factor into all this?

I would imagine they'd be against contractors and developers hiring non-unionized internationals, but then again if there's already a severe labor shortage (locally), is there really any argument to be had?

No, for some strange reason I meant to type Fulton, not James. Completely different names, not sure how I mixed that up.
