So even though 11-12 pieces of the spire are in place is it at it's half way pt in height, or will the latter sections be taller, because at half way right now it doesn't look that tall.

From the rendering, it appears as if it's halfway complete.

Trust me, when the temporary platforms are removed, it will appear much taller than you see right now.

Are all the sections on site, or are there more to be shipped? And what about the beacon, is that on site yet?
If by "beacon" you are referring to the light-fixture inside the top piece (#17), it will not be on-site for a couple more weeks. I think it is to be installed in section 17 while still on the ground. The rest of all the other fixtures (also not on-site, but not behind schedule either) are to be installed in the air, as they're already installing platforms that fixtures will eventually be mounted to above section 8.

Keep in mind from the photos, you're looking at it from an angle. It'll be basically the height of a 40-story building.

Notice how the section around the guy wire pick-up points actually carries the frame for the radome. Sadly, the closest we will get.

Beautiful shots CalibratedZeus. It was nice to see some close up shots of the cladding. It gave me a better appreciation of the glazing. Thanks again!

Maybe this will help some of you who can not get there realize the scale....

It really is huge. And it really is visible from quite a distance.

Has anybody esle noticed the triangular lattice around the antenna in this picture? What could that be? Have they changed plans and decided to put a metal frame around it in a similar shape to how the radome would be?

Or is it just where they'll attach the guy lines?

If you're talking about section 8, that's how it was always supposed to look (even if the radome had been included) They won't be putting a metal frame or any other radome substitute on it.

The Spire is what it is. It's not changing, it's not being modified, nothing said here will make Durst or anyone else change their mind, so let's all lay off it for a while and see what comes. A building is a sum of it's parts, this is only one part.

Scott
Exactly!!! And when several of those parts are downgraded it downgrades the entire building. I think it was Eames who said "the details aren't the details, they are the design."

The spire reminds me of the Tokyo Sky Tree in some way, but worse.

Dunno if anyone's asked this yet but: Why haven't they covered over the center of the east right side up triangle wall with windows yet? That service elevator was taken down a longggg time ago. Are those missing windows going to be used to take down the roof cranes or something?
